The Rough Guide to African Rap - Various Artists [2004]

Just one more to go along with the previous post.
Now, if you were adventurous enough to try out Spikiri then don't now be thinking you are some kind of expert on African rap! far from it.
This is probably not the real street sound as we all know, compilation discs like these are never quite as good as the more localised releases. (You know what I mean - the compilation of bob Marley you bought in the petrol garage turned out to be pretty weak compared to your other albums of his you already had at home right?!)
However! I can't deny that this gives us a great open door to the various sounds that constitute African Rap and...I love it!
So give it a go.

Unsure?
fine. Go to this Amazon page and try the samples. at least you get a few seconds of each track to give you a little taster.

For those who are aware of some of the African Rap artists out there, here is a tracklist for you:
01. Right Here in Front of You (Nigeria) - Unsung Heroes & Ty Ft. Breis (4:46)
02. Township Dwella (South Africa) - Prophets of Da City (3:53)

[2002] Spikiri - King Don Father (Reposted)

Hello people.
Again, not much going on here but I have re-uploaded this fine African rap album by Spikiri on the request I found in the chatbox!
Remember to post YOUR requests there too. You might even find them posted here for you!
Forgive my idleness but this is going to be a basic copy and paste job from the original post...apart from having new links of course!
Let me tell you - if you missed this first time around then why don't you have a listen and give this music a chance? It is pretty good and I always love to hear how genres of music sound across different cultures and places around the world.
Broadening your range of musical experience is never a bad thing!
...Now, from the original post:

Kwaito.
Heard of it?
Well I hadn't.
I found this with 'RAP' in the 'genre' section of the MP3 tags.
Oops.
I reckon that was a mistake.
I now know this genre is known as 'Kwaito' and is South African Hip-Hop based music with a difference!

...it is unlike anything you've ever heard before!
Have a read of this article, courtesy of wikipedia.
Also for artist info, read HERE (NY Times, you may have to log in!), HERE, HERE or HERE.
(Not very much on this guy really to be found yet....someone needs to build him a website!)

I'm in a hurry as I really need to sleep and have had a long and hard day today. Kids holidays, illness, bla bla etc.
So I will just copy & paste some info on the music for you.
I will say this though I am so happy to be bringing you this!!
It was a hard to find one too and unfortunately, because of this, it is 128k bitrate but you still have to have a listen as it is unlike anything you've ever heard before!
