Iron Maiden - A Matter Of Life And Death

Sorry for the long hiatus of my posting, but first semester finals are over and done with, so I'll be able to post more now.
My first post in almost 2 months is the incredible IRON MAIDEN's new album, A Matter Of Life and Death. Although not containing any immediate classics, it is, overall, a strong album. With most songs clocking in at over five minutes long, don't expect to hear any of it played on the radio.
Last time I used Badongo to upload, I got complaints, so let me know if anyone's got a problem with AxiFile.

Min Huifen - Moon (ERHU) [Great Masters & Masterpieces of Chinese Instruments [1998]

Well. After bringing you the great Japanese album which introduced us to the Shakuhachi flute (I assume you read it!), I wanted to have a little look into Oriental music in general and see if I could find something as traditional, authentic and pure but Chinese. I think I have just the album!
Again, we are introduced to a new(to us that is) instrument which is a great Chinese tradition and is worthy of your time so I hope you will read it along with me, before listening to the great music that it produces.
We turn again to that floating oracle, Wikipedia.
The instrument in question is called the Erhu. The basics of it are that it is a violin type instrument. It only has two strings but it does resemble a violin moe than say..a flute!
The entry in wikipedia is here

I will quote a little from it.
'The erhu can be traced back to instruments introduced into China more than a thousand years ago. It is believed to have evolved from the xiqin, which was described as a foreign, two-stringed lute in an encyclopedic work on music by music theorist Chen Yang called Yue Shu (book of music), written during the Northern Song Dynasty. The xiqin is believed to have originated from the Xi people of Central Asia, and have come to China in the 10th century.

...Erhu with liu jiao qin tong (6 sided body)The first character of the name of the instrument, èr, meaning "two", is believed to come from the fact that it has two strings. An alternate explanation states that "èr" comes from the fact that it is the second highest huqin in pitch to the gaohu in the modern Chinese orchestra. The second character, "hú", indicates that it is a member of the huqin family. The name huqin literally means "barbarian instrument," showing that the instrument may have originated from regions to the north or west of China.'

I recommend you go and read the rest. Isn't it fascinating how these instruments and their names always seem to have a story and a history around them that is as interesting as the instrument itself. Moreso I'd say!
So now I will be finding out about the Huqin family of instruments - something I never realised existed...how about you?

I would love to write more about this but my health is still dragging me down so this will be short.
The musician on this album of Erhu music, although I have struggled with online translations (not even sure of the correct album name! Though google translations seem to call it Moon, so I go with that!) and a lack of English information, It seems to be the case that Min Huifen is one of the great musicians of the Chinese traditional music world. (I found this short line of text somewhere: Min Huifen, a renowned mainland erhu (two-stringed violin) soloist - So there is the proof right!). Also, for your information, Min is a woman. Wow! I found a photograph of her too!!

Chinese Ambience - The Relaxing Sound Of Oriental Music

OK I messed up. Royally.
After the recent Japanese music album which I am sure made you tingle with sheer delight etc etc bla bla bla, I said I had some Chinese music to come.
Well this isn't it.
I have a rather unorganised Hard Drive right now. Well, actually I ALWAYS have it that way but right now is much worse than usual as I just got myself a nice new 300Gb SATA drive and, as my only other large Drive(160Gb PATA) has started with bad sectors about a month ago (and also stores all of my MP3 collection), I decided I need to transfer or burn a lot of that music before the drive suddenly dies and turns it all into useless bytes of corrupt crap. Upon trying to arrange and sort and file the stuff, I have inevitably ended up with folders of MP3s at various stages in the renaming/tagging/fixing/encoding/whatever process. This means a shitload of files and even less organisation than before (which was a total mess).

Now that you have an idea what's going on I can tell you that I was listening to the only two albums of Chinese music that I have the other day and it was then I planned on sharing one of them here: The one I uploaded afterwards and am posting now is erm, not the one I planned to share!
Oops.
I had two: One album is Shanghai Orchestra playing fantastic traditional Chinese folk music. I love it.
The other album is a more modern flavour with the title you see above.
I am not saying it's not worth posting and I have no doubt, there are people who love or at least like this kind of music. It is basically ambient (or elevator, depending on how you look at it!) music with a Chinese theme enforced upon it!
Not for me really.
In fact I should probably delete the album as I am supposed to be sorting my files out but I do find it hard to delete music.
Anyway my friends...Please, give it a listen as you might be one of those that decides it's pretty good.
I'll tell you this: When I listened to it the other day I was lying on the sofa, in an horrendous situation of pain that wasn't letting up at all and I was watching the clock and awaiting the painkillers to take some effect and just trying hard to relax, This album definitely assisted me in that department ... I almost fell asleep.
Is that a positive thing in terms of how good the music is? Not sure.
Decide for yourself.

Since discovering I only had two Chinese albums I went on a search and I now have about 6 of them. Traditional, authentic Chinese music that is.

HENDRIX and other stuff

Hello all..
I don't want to give over too much time to this but I think you deserve to have a little explanation.
Someone decided to report all of the Hendrix disc set files to the rapidshare people and so they have deleted them. Surprise surprise!
The reason I never used to use rapidsahre before was?
Yep, because of their speed of deleting links. I thought that using Share-protect or rapidsafe was an er, protection.
Hehe obviously not right?
I just thought I would let you know, if links do get deleted it isn't the end of the world and in fact, makes absolutely no difference because as I have said before, I have a constant uploading stream going. This PC has not been switched off for years save for the odd reboot!
The files that were deleted are already reuploading so I will obviously let you know on the Hendrix.
I will stop using the crappy rapidshare once again. I mean what is the point when the other hosting places are so much more relaxed(they do not care about such things as copyright!) about the files they host and are also not as willing to just remove files on the whim of someone reporting them.
So, expect to be downloading from different hosts again now. Don't worry about that: I will not be trying loads of different hosts and giving you non working links etc, I already have my favourite hosts and they work brilliantly. I only stopped using those because RS brought out a handy uploading tool and so I started using RS again.
Well, fuck rapidshare!
More soon. Music I mean, not rambling!

A comment would be appreciated!LINKS:
