Gong - '69-'77 Anthology (Great Prog Rock/Jazz/Blues/Pixie music...)

Hello this fine day. Thought I would bring you some good old pixie music!
I went through a phase of just listening to progressive rock and at the height of it I thought that the best music ever created would have been created by either.
Gong, or Caravan.
Do I still think that?
Hmm now that I ask myself the question I feel kind of stuck...like, I can't answer it in the negative! Hehe.
Yet I hardly ever listen to those bands these days. Might just go put some on now as I did listen to this one yesterday and a bit today so I'm getting the old hippy feeling back in my bones.
All I need now is a cup of mushroom tea.
Well, mushroom soup is close enough eh?

If the band known as GONG is a new concept to you then you, my friend, have many things to discover yet in life.
Weird music being one of them.
Download now!
Listen to it in as many varying atmospheres and conditions as possible.
How to describe this music to someone who has never heard it?..Hmm.
OK I would go for something like 'Blues with Jazzy melodies mixed with progressive Rock bass lines and drums that can trance you out more than any trance music you've heard(!), then there is the spacey sound to elevate yuour mind from the living room to outer space and beyond...hehe, I'm having fun now, surprisingly there is also a punk feel to many songs and that is my least liked part of the band to be honest. I'm a spaced out hippie at heart and they really do have the edge on tripping out journeys and landscapes carved in sound.
Almost stopped there but still more - then there is a French/chanson music slant that just keeps on coming into the mixture'. Not forgetting how it all sucks you in like a Pink Floyd-ish trip-style journey which can be whimsical and silly or deeply moving and so serious it can scare you.
Oh and the guitar riffs, repetitive or inspiringly complex solos: just fantastic.!
There, good enough description?!
Seriously, this is some very well crafted work. That is what I think it should be called...well crafted.
Better yet get their other albums if you really are new to them...I have posted them in the past but I will post them again soon I think.

Back to this album. A good collection of live stuff. OK I think it is not the best for a beginner to their music but some tracks really are amazing and so, you will still like to hear it I'm sure. (Does that actually consist of logic anywhere in that last sentence? Hmm I'm losing the plot..)

Ricky Gervais Podcasts ... the Bonus Disc exclusive!

Ricky Gervais. Such a funny guy. For a time I used to think he really was the funniest guy I had ever seen as far as comedy goes. Before that I think John Cleese was my favourite but when Ricky Gervais appeared on the TV screen he really changed things. Well a little. Not much actually. He just did what came naturally and everyone around him changed. They rallied around him, building up hype. As if the media could hardly believe this 'new' comedy that consisted of erm...not much really.
Not in terms of 'TV friendly' comedy. He didn't give them much to go on.
It was just situations; cringe worthy moments; awkward silences and nothing that would look so good on TV at all. Even in early interviews he was such a nice chap. So humble.
Heh.

Think he's changed?
Ever since the podcasts solely consisted of him and Stephen Merchant taking the piss out of Karl I started to wonder if I found him as funny anymore.
I've said it before here but I just wish he would get away from the Karl thing and maybe talk about something else for a change!
These podcasts only run their lifespan because they stopped talking about anything other than the Karl thing and it really is a thin joke. OK it still makes me laugh when Karl says something funny and they howl in the background, but, I would have loved it if they had brought out some of these shows where Ricky and Stephen talked about something and maybe had a bit of a comedy debate...the big topics, religion, science, immortality etc. etc. and yes, even Karl could chip in now and again like he used to before they made him an equal member and he eventually was the only topic!
The conversations they used to have on the XFM shows are absolutely classic and they are the real shows to keep a hold of.
I haven't listened to this yet, just uploaded it fast cos' you asked for it, so maybe I am wrong and this one is a good one.
Still, bring back the old Ricky and Stephen like the XFM days...

New Oasis Album...stealing from The Doors...? Surely not!

Just dropping in to leave this for you...
I was listening to the new oasis album (you might have heard, it leaked on to the internet a few days ago. Of course I wouldn't post it here because that is against the law and Oasis like people to abide by the law very strictly it seems!

As I was saying, I was listening to their album when, as soon as I heard the intro to track 03 - Waiting for the Rapture I thought I was listening to som ething else.
I mean, they have stolen riffs and chord progressions in the past but this one, they even seem to have kept it in the same key it was otriginally.
It's the guitar intro and bassline from 'Five to One - The Doors'. I present to you here for comparison, both tracks.
Have a listen and see what I am talking about.

Oasis - Waiting for the Rapture

The Doors - Five to One

Still, I like the album!

Ricky Gervais Podcasts Series Five 5 Episodes 1 - 4

Hey fans, I'm sure you won't mind me assuming you are my fans eh..I mean, well...whatever. I am renowned for talking shit so why stop now...I am just getting going again lately!!

Thanks to a kind posting from mr ed in the shoutbox over yonder there, I can repost his links to the very latest podcasts by Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington.
I wasn't too well so didn't get my arse in gear to search these out but nice of mr ed to share with us so thanks mate :)
I also haven't listened to them either!
I put episode one on the other night and heard the usual taking the piss out of Karl and Ricky laughing until I fell asleep so...seems nothing has changed. If that is the case I fear I may get a bit bored with it ... they used to have so much more going for them than ONLY taking the piss out of Karl!!! You have to admit, it does get a bit tedious!!
No doubt I will still be laughing hard at some point when I hear it.

The Doors - The Lost Interview Tapes Featuring Jim Morrison Volume ONE

Where there exists a 'volume two' then there must be a volume One right?
This one is brilliant. a bit more involved, two different interviews that will entertain you somewhat.

Slightly understating it there but trust me, some of this cracked me up - the questions they get asked are so far out of touch with the music, scene and just the way they were at the time(obviously I have to imagine this as I wasn't born). It can be pretty hilarious at times and you can hear the band members almost straining at having to think of an answer to yet another dumb question.
this one wasn't so easy to find so grab it.

The Doors - The Lost Interview Tapes Featuring Jim Morrison Volume Two: The Circus Magazine Interview.

EDIT: Oops! Had to quickly change the title of this post here after I did a little more digging around and discovered the title was wrong...and this is actually volume TWO of such a tape of Morrison interviews.
(And so you will discover the mp3 album is entitled simply as the Lost Interviews - Jim Morrison which you can change yourself now you know the correction!)

Hello again, excuse me for updating so soon, I realise it might give you a fright but let's just do this..

Jim Morrison.
Once upon a time I was quite obsessive about this character. Probably something to do with that naff film by Oliver stone. that was about the only way losers like me and my mates could have hoped to hear about someone like that. The Doors wasn't really a band or subject that came up very often in the mean streets of Falkirk when the thugs were handing out the Lambert & butlers and swigging on buckfast or Thunderbird.
Somehow I discovered The Doors and not long after I tried Liberty Cap mushrooms or just shrooms if you like. Then I really got into The Doors.

How life changes. I'd crap myself if I was to take a trip now.
Probably.
Hmm are they really in season right now?
Yes.
Oh.
right.

I never knew this tape existed and now having listened to it I'm glad I found it.
Some words of(dubious) wisdom and a lot of rambling ... trippy rambling, if you know what I mean. That's what you get with this: A collection of words, interviews and rambles by the man himself.
Well worth a listen even just to hear where those lines were formed...'Indians bleeding all over the highway...' it seems it comes right out of a conversation on this tape, from an experience Morrison had when he was a kid. If he is telling the truth or is, indeed, sane.
Have a listen and make your own mind up about his sanity.

Stevie Wonder is bloody Brilliant! Yeah really!!

Hello fickle friends and netizens...
I recently watched an episode of Jonathan Ross' chat show (it's a UK thing so if you don't know what I am talking about, don't worry it's a late night chat show that's all..pretty funny too with music and the usual shit that these kind of shows have), and one of the guests was Stevie Wonder.

That is the actual show with him on it.

Now. I must confess to something here. I really do not know the general pubic attitude towards Stevie but as far as I go, I have always had a real dislike for the guy and his music. Yes I said the guy and his music not just his music.

Why?
I'm not totally sure! (What kind of a moron am I you are now thinking right..hehe)
I think it stems from when I was a kid and it was due to the fact that my mother always seemed to be playing records of his!!!
You know how your parents' music can traumatise you as a kid sometimes?
Well I reckon that is what happened.
So as I grew up I really couldn't stand the guy. I only had to hear the opening of 'Ebony and Ivory' or even see his face on the TV screen and I'd be jumping up to switch channels!!
So I saw him on this show the other night and he was interviewed first of all.
I thought..hmm he's actually quite a cool guy. Relaxed chap, very genuine and also I don't think I have ever seen someone so outwardly HAPPY!
Then he sang some of his well known songs..tracks that I remembered from the olden days (!) but they sounded a bit different this time around.
I was just blew away by that I have to admit.
I mean, this guy can friggin sing right?!
Not just sing, he feels the music.

I have always appreciated live music. Something about seeing a performance live just makes it special anyway. It transcends the genre or style, I can be impressed or get into the feel of most genres or kinds of music if I am fortunate enough to see the live performance. Of course it's better when you really are there in person but seeing Stevie Wonder live on TV was pretty friggin' special.

The result of all this is that I immediately went online to find me a nice Wonder album.
I just wanted a good one, the well known hits and none of the tracks that (I learned from reading reviews and info on him) were panned as he went through some rather 'dodgy' stages in the 80's-90's period.
This, my friends, is the collection of tracks I have been listening to a LOT in the past few days and the one I want you to listen to.
Enjoy it.

If you are like I was and can't stand him then I URGE you to take this opportunity to change all that cos' if you really do imagine yourself a muso or a music aficionado, which is why you are visiting mp3 blogs right>? then you cannot seriously call yourself that if you don't learn to appreciate such a massively talented guy.
Wow.
I might be turning into my mother of course.
Oo-er!

[Harvested] PINK FLOYD BBC Archives 1970-1971 ((FLAC LOSSLESS)) Paris Cinema upgraded version

Hello again, just dropping these off...before anyone asks me if I have been messing around with the original SHN files etc I will just tell you what I did now:
There are two discs here...as you know if you go read the precious blog post! One is in SHN or shorten format and the other in FLAC.
Well I seem to have so much bloody irritation whenever I need to deal with shorten files that I always try to get rid of them ASAP. I know, it is easy to convert them and decode them/uncompress them back to WAV files but it is still far too complicated for people with no idea what a command line is and it just gets silly if all people want is to listen to the music.
Luckily so many players nowadays(and I mean PC software players) will have no problem playing back FLAC files. So it has to be done really.
I took the SHN files, decoded them back to WAV files and then LOSSLESSLY compressed them up to FLAC to match the other disc.
So what you are getting here is the two discs talked of previously in the MP3 post, but they are all in FLAC.

I suppose I can give you the tracklist here eh...? :)

[Harvested] PINK FLOYD BBC Archives 1970-1971 ((MP3 320K/bps)) Paris Cinema upgraded version

This, my friends, is THE DEFINITIVE version of this utterly jaw-droppingly perfect album. I feel honoured to be able to say that I think this is one of the best albums I have ever posted on here!
Released by the not so well known - but very well known if you are 'in the know'..hehe - group of fans who go by the name of HRV or Harvested Records which, as they themselves state on their site, is a myth as they never have been or were an actual record company. Just a group of fans who know their shit, which makes GREAT news for us!

I present you today with the highest quality MP3 version I could make from the original FLAC and SHORTEN files. The next post on the site will be of the FLAC files, for those who want a better experience. They are very much larger and also not compatible with most personal mediaplayers so, if you want easy compatibility for your ipod or mp3 player, then todays MP3 links are what you want.

I wrote quite a bit in the NFO files for this so allow me to paste a bit here, just to give some info for you...

One of their releases is given the code HRV CDR007 and it is a double CD set
comprising of a great couple of shows that the Floyd done in 1970 and 1971 at
the Paris theatre, London.
It seems various sources were used to compose the final released album by HRV
and they did a blinding job.
Go forward a few years and we find this:
Released by the same guys is another new one with the code HRV CDR007B Rev A
Now, this is basically a massively upgraded (in terms of sound quality) release
of the second disc in the set above that I just described.
I listen to it and I really have to agree. It sounds beautiful.;

So, even though a lot of folk reading this now will not have even collected or
heard the original HRV set of two discs (HRV CDR007) I feel it is now pointless
to be trading the older, less good set with the second disc in it that just isn't
anywhere near as good as this revised upgraded one.

It is with that in mind that I decided to bring you the original HRV CDR007 first
Disc
and with that, the revised Second disc .
So you can sit back and listen to
the BBC Archives 1970-1971 set in the way intended by these guys.

Various Artists - El Album Verde [2006] - - - - Reggae Tribute to The Beatles - - - -

Hello once again tu le monde.
I bring gifts of Beatlesque-ness from the land of Argentine.
this is a nice change and, yes, I know there are a million and one tribute albums to The Beatles and another million and ten albums of Beatles covers in varying styles but...and it is a good 'but'!
...this one is...well, it's refreshingly different.
It made me laugh the other day I came across some post on youtube where a track from this had been posted as Bob Marley singing a Beatles track. Funny how a lot of the comments didn't seem to notice it wasn't the great Marley dude until some with a little more up top put them right.

Here is the official album page, I ran it through the amazingly talented google translator first so be prepared for some random nonsense! Still worth a look though.
El Album Verde
Anyway I am not going for a track by track account nor am I giving you much to go on.
I want you to download this and listen to it, that is all.
If you like reggae music you might want to have a go at this.
If you like The Beatles then you might also want to have a go.
If you like neither and are a Celine dion fan then what the feck are you doing here??
OK so see what you reckon.
A comment would be nice, even just as a reminder that I am not talking only to myself and the google searchbot!

Words of wisdom..well, Redirection sites suck, Hendrix gets rapid and Dylan returns soon to the theme Time Radio Hour.

Yes it is Sunday but well...

Hello Friends etc et all. A couple of things to note today.
First up is the fact that the redirecting site I have been using more recently, share0.com, has suddenly gone.
What a load of crap that is.
For me, and you, it just means a lot of links here will lead you to nothing but their new main page which will probably soon transform into some way of trying to earn cash from the sheer numbers of traffic they are now getting. Well that they will get for a short time until people like myself remove all traces of them from their links.
Don't worry, I have been there a few times and for now they are just using their main page to display second hand info from a well known release site - rlslog.net - and basically using their blog postings as their own!
I hate crap like that but well...this is the internet, anything goes and no one gives a flying f*** about anyone else.

That is how it goes right?

Anyway about those links, do not fear - on any post that has a link leading to share0.com there is also an alternative link right next to it which uses the other redirection service I have used for years now, paylesssofts.net which is a great service..no spyware or crap when you go there, a good site for avoiding putting full RS and megaupload links on your page which, I think, is probably still a good idea although the merit of it is dwindling in my eyes. Maybe soon I will do away with redirectors and post raw links, see what happens with them.

I suppose second up is the old boring subject of my health and just how much of a facking struggle it's been lately. Yes apologies again but what can I do...nothing to be honest. It hurts, I feel wiped out, I do very little.
That's about it really.
If its too shite and boring round here for you then, its OK, I understand you leavin'. Hehe.

*sobs*

Now on with the show I suppose...
For those that were asking I have just updated those Hendrix ATM posts from number 14-16 with rapidshare mirrors so go get them.
Just a reminder too: If you find a post with links only to megaupload or rapid and you want the other site as a mirror then just email or leave a comment ON THE PAGE in question and I will attend to it!
I am sorry but I am only going to use those two major hosting sites now. So many others are just crap. I have uploaded a lot of files on other hosting sites and they just do not work. I still have a load of stuff on one called oxyshare and yet any time I go there to check the links and DL the files..I end up in a continual loop of clicking their ads, waiting for the DL link, then clicking to download the file and then back to the ads page...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
So, as much as I realise that megaupload or rapidshare do annoy people I am sticking with just those two options.
However!!!
I also understand the need to hear or get a hold of some music when you are a fan and, things like some bootlegs or just a rare album, etc can be so good to hear and I know what I am like if I cannot get it or even get to hear it.
So...if there is something here that has links for, but they are no use to you, just email me with the details of the post you are talking about and tell me the problem you are having and I will work out a way of helping you to get to hear it.
PLEASE do not abuse this by emailing me just because there's an album posted from two years ago and the links are dead!!! I cannot keep reuploading every single thing that is asked or I would be constantly reuploading and never upload new stuff. Use the request reupload button on the right of the pages for re-up requests and only email me if the problem is because yuou cannot use RS or Megaupload links and you really want to hear the music!

Something else...The Bob Dylan Radio Show that seems to keep this site going sometimes, Theme Time Radio Hour, is restarting in this very month of the year!
so look out for that fans of the man.
Wow. This is what you might call a very long post right?

Should I end it now?
Probably for the best eh.

OK.
Off to watch tennis.
Andy Murray is doing bloody well in the US Open eh?
Surely there is at least one tennis fan reading this?
I think Andy Murray, as arrogant as I used to think he was, is going to be the world number one soon. We haven't seen his best yet I would say.
I don't have friggin satellite TV and so the only bloody option apart from listening to the match via BBC radio five Live sport, is for us to view it via a stream I found online, which is about youtube quality(!! not great for a tennis match!) and then I connect it through my videocard to the TV so it looks a bit better than if its watched on a monitor. Full screen, of course.
How I wish I had bloody Sky sports, just for the US Open!
Damn internet technology.
Isn't it supposed to be amazing?
Isn't this the age of streaming high def content etc etc?
What balls that is.
Mind you, after an hour or so of watching fuzzy, jumpy tennis you can actually forget how bad the quality is and just get into the sheer passion of the tennis!
I love it!
Not as much as I would love to see it in at least VHS quality..heh!
Call this friggin progress?
