Daevid Allen (Gong) - Eat Me Baby I'm A Jelly Bean [1998]

Hello again if there's anyone still listening to this rather sporadic blog.
I can only inform you of just how ill I am and have been, again lately. This is the reason for my absence and only now I think it may be getting better but, the nature of it is that it's unpredictable and also annoyingly inconsistent. what makes me feel better today may make my symptoms worse tomorrow. It gets difficult to know what to do after a while.

I'm sure I must have mentioned it but..hehe just let me indulge that again and tell you that as I AM GOING TO A GONG CONCERT in November, I have been listening to them and getting to know all the stuff I used to listen to in my hippie days...I came across this brilliant work by Daevid Allen, playing with a band he has put together and the music is unlike any Gong you will hear.
I used to say 'I hate jazz' and I did. With a passion you could say.
I think it was many nights of late TV watching here in the UK. For some strange reason they used to put these incessant jazz shows on that would last for hours. Just free-form jazz playing. The music seemed to me to go nowhere. I like music to have some kind of anchor. Structure. I don't appreciate it if it is so far gone that it just keeps changing and morphing and evolving without bringing you back to something you can anchor on to. I don't know if I'm making that clear. I know what I mean!
Well Gong have been one band that have brought me dangerously close to jazz in the past. In fact listening to them and Steve Hillage I have had to accept that there are definitely some forms of Jazz I really like.
I think as long as it has structure then I love it. The chords that are played are amazing. It really has a lot going for it but, has to have structure.
Free-form jazz?
Stick it.

So. This is Daevid Allen playing Jazz.
Cool lyrics, quirky music. What can go wrong?
What a feckin' brilliant record this is! I've now listened to it about 15 times in a couple of days which is unusual for me, unless it is Hendrix.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
Really.
It would be good to imagine you might take the time to leave a comment on what you think of it, but alas...I know you are far too busy eh.

Gong - Live on TV (1990)

Hey! I found this on some torrent site and I realised I have never actually seen Gong perform until this.

Maybe you are the same well ... I'm not sure that the sight of this guy swaying around with a white face and strange hat will do much to assist you in becoming a fan.
Still, the performance is great. They know music and they know how to perform it. I'm not sure about the white face.
A bit unsettling at times hehe.

If the following video looks a bit like it has the wrong aspect ratio..the faces are long or wide, then there is a button on the player to 'switch to 4:3' it looks better that way I think.

One more thing...in case the video player doesn't load, as sometimes happens with different browsers etc, click this link to open the video if it fails.

I suppose I could upload the original AVI file that I found too...

Hideous Kinky - The soundtrack to the movie. [OST]

Oliver twisted his ankle!

Hello folks...we have gone from glorious sunshine here in South East England to one of those horrible grey days where you could almost be convinced that the whole concept of 'weather' has been aborted for a day. There is no weather. It is just a void.
Grey.
It is due to this that I am sharing today's album with you.

You know when you ask someone their favourite album, it is always a hard question for anyone to answer. I hate the question myself and would rather avoid it. I just don't think you can, in your head, compare and contrast so many different genres and artists and weed it down to a single ONE. Out of all I have listened to and al I have heard, bring all of that down to just one single favourite?
Impossible right?
I can always say who I think is talented, who is great at singing, guitarists, overall performance etc but I don't think I can just say x is the best ever ever above all others.
Jimi Hendrix?
Hehe just kidding although he is one of the most talented.

Through the years I have noted that my girlfriend or she who must not be named, has a favourite in this album I posted today./
She loves the movie it is from - I have to admit I can't really remember much about it although I've seen it more than once! - and she just loves the whole 'freedom, 60's ideal' sort of atmosphere it gives.
I have to agree. I listened to it the other day and really got into it. It follows that an album that is focusing so much on the free love 60's time is also a great album to relax to with your favourite smokage.
As I always used to say around here; if you haven't listened to this before then DO IT NOW as it really is an experience worth visiting, though if you know all the artists and tracks then you may not want to bother but, even then, this is a great playlist of such tunes and, amazingly, one of the few albums that was bought and paid for in a shop that I have in my collection!

So.
Enjoy, the soundtrack from Hideous Kinky.
If you can download freely from rapidshare and want to see this movie, you might want to have a look HERE.
If you are a torrent user and want to see the film then lookie HERE, and demonoid, HERE it's a torrent! I'll keep it seeding forever so jump on it and get it going... You know there are a very few versions of this online and they mostly have horrendous audio or are a VHS to PC rip and not good. I just got this one upped myself so take advantage if you want to see the film!!

Bob Dylan Theme Time Radio Hour S03E24 'CLEARANCE SALE TWO HOUR SHOW!' [HIGH QUALITY MP3]

Wow. It's a week already and yet again I have not posted anything since the last, late posted episode of Theme Time Radio.
Well life goes on.
Illness.
Bleurgh.
Etc etc etc.
*

Its Night time in the big city. Cross words and confused minds flicker in and out of communication like a moth around the lamplight. Moving forward yet not really sure if the direction is correct. Not moving at all and yet always progressing.
What is progress if it is not an acceptance of past failures?
Does progress always mean heartache?
Does anyone care.
I read a great quote about the English people this week...it went:
You Brits: You eat crap, you idolise crap and you talk about crap.
I agree!
