Jimi Hendrix: 'Straight Ahead Fanzine - All of the Audio parts. DISC ELEVEN [RARE!]

Time for a helping of Hendrix...Of course nothing to do with the rather enticing incentive offered yesterday in the chatbox!
Honest.
I had planned on a different post today and I would post that also but I am feeling a bit sore and struggling a bit with lack of energy today.. so, I will see if I can put the other two albums on later. If not there'll be extra tomorrow!

So Disc Number 11 it is then.

http://www.mp33pm.co.uk is born!

I decided I should use donation money that you kind people have given me lately and at least get a decent and permanent domain name for this place!
So as of today if you type www.mp33pm.co.uk or http://mp33pm.co.uk (Why would that one stop working only two days after it started and it worked fine?? Now I MUST use the WWW at the beginning so you must too ok!) or even the usual old blogspot address, you will find yourself here!
So remember the new address as it will ALWAYS be the same from today onwards...to infinity and beyond. (erm, ok no need to get excited)

The crap thing is that a few months ago, I checked and all of the variations of this site name were available...the .com one was too (which I was really wanting to get!).
But if you aint fast - yer last. As they say and too right in this case.
As a site gets a fair amount of visitors, there are these crappy irritating 'search sites' that will buy up the similar domain name to a popular site, to catch the traffic of people who get the name of the site they want ot o go to wrong, so you find that if you someday mistakenly misspell a wensite, you most likely will end up on some site purporting to be a search engine. If you use it as such, you will get nothing but spammed and all manner of ways to get you to click their commission loaded referral links! These f*ckers have a million such sites, ..well, just one probably and a million redirected popular or misspelled domain addresses.
Anyway I must be going up in the world because some firm bought the mp33pm.com addresss at he end of 2006 and when I check them out, they are one of those crappy ad sites.
So they must think it will be an earner...so does that mean my site is making a stamp somewhere on the wide world webster?
Wow.
At least I got the .co.uk one.

So CELEBRATION TIME RIGHT!?

http://www.mp33pm.co.uk

DON'T FORGET THAT ADDRESS!

It WILL NEVER EVER CHANGE NOW!

[2000] Various Artists - Latinismo:Grupo Mexicano Folklore Nacional

As you can see above, I actually located a cover for it..still no info on the real details though...read on!

I used to post quite a lot of so called World music here. Things went a bit awry after that old Dylan character started doing a radio show. Then, I decided to post a set of Hendrix Discs (yep I didn't forget, next installment is coming tomorrow OK!) and that all but took over the site. With my health going right down the pan it has been difficult enough just to keep updating those two major posts each week.
Well, my health hasn't actually changed but maybe my attitude has. I am so sick of feeling pain and all the rest of the symptoms of this damned illness [Crohn's Disease link, Crohn's Pain Link!] that I am on an upward track at the moment!
I am determined not to let it get me so down that I can't even come and keep this place going. This place gives me a focus and I would miss it if I couldn't do it.
OK that's enough about my insignificant existence for today.
Where was I...?
Oh yes, World music. I always used to notice that World music would be download a lot and was very popular...be it Italian traditional folk music, Arabic or Indian, people like to try something different. At least I do and I assumed that's why it's so popular.
So, I will be returning to that genre and to start it off I found this album...
Ominously labelled 'Greek Trad Music' by someone somewhere who isn't as much of an obsessive-compulsive as I am obviously. Doesn't sound like Greek Traditional Music and I'm no brain surgeon!
It's been an interesting and erm, refreshing afternoons music for me. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing this and hope you do too.
I know little about where it comes from or who it is by but bear with me whilst I do some searching..

Many searches later...
Shit! I can't find anything of any value to tell you! (That would be a first then?)
I think Latinismo is a term for Latin music though I'm not even intelligent enough to say that for certain.
Take it from me, this is a collection of tunes that ooze culture!
Hang on I just found this little quote that at least settles one thing:
...Latinismo - the assertion of a Latino identity based on shared linguistic, historical, and cultural resources...

By the way, don't you agree that to have a genre called 'World music' is a bit stupid? Each album of so called World music I've shared so far has been so different; each part of the world is so different right? So seems a bit weird to have any category that they all fit into. Anyway that's just me rambling on..!

As always, hope you enjoy the music. Don't just write it off because it's not what you usually listen to or some shit reason like that.
Life is about broadening your horizons and your mind!
Every new experiences teaches you something!

[2005] Cirque Du Soleil - Alegria

A little while back, when I was reeling in pain and illness(!) I remember someone asking me if I would be able to post another album or soundtrack by Cirque Du Soleil. Not sure if any particular one was requested but I had this on the hard drive and had listen to it today.
It's a fine piece of music. If you know anything of them you will know that to describe the music as theatrical is a slight understatement!
This one starts off with an electric bass and light percussion that just lifts you, gently, beat by beat...then rising, breaks out into a beautiful Latino female vocal. Sit back and lap it up. From that moment until the end, you are under their spell.
Each album of theirs seems to be a journey. Kind of like the old prog-rock albums except, not at all like them.
If you know what I mean.

I love the circus-feel, the french accordion, the trademark quirky and slick presentation and the drums. They are good and go a whole lot on their drums..
They sound traditional and theatrical one minute and then electric guitar and maybe Electro-pop the next.
Hehe.
Just try it.

Just Jack - Overtones [2007]

OK OK you might not have expected to see this, or maybe you never know what to expect anymore? (I am talking about the album, not the picture).
I was watching online(just for a change you know) and the TV was on in the room at the time when suddenly my ears pricked up to some musician singing - or erm, rapping you might call it -live.
I stopped what I was doing and sat down to fully take it in.
It was the now highly marketed Just Jack. Whatever I am going to say in the latter part of this post let me first say I was mesmerised by his performance. Beat and note-perfect, his lyrical rhyming sounded pretty cool albeit in that dreaded cockney accent of the Londoner that you might have heard on those shitty Londoner hard men films like Lock Stock and two fucking arseholes, etc.
For some strange reason I actually thought this guy was good. So much so that I went online afterwards and tried to track down anything by him. the search was a waste of time.
Last night I saw an ad on TV for his upcoming album, 'Overtones' and with it that already annoying single 'Starz In Their Eyes'. So I did the search again and here is the album just for you.
I better give you my rundown on it.
Absolute crap.
Beyond shambolic.
If this is Englands answer to (American) Rap then all I have got to say is this:
English kids shouldn't rap.
If it isn't Englands answer to rap then what the hell is it exactly?
I think I just thought up a new genre..
Chav-Hop.
The Streets are more appealing.
Honestly.
Oh but don't listen to me right?
What the hell do I know?
Download it and then slag it off for yourself!
This is an up and coming new young raw talent from UK!
Amazing thing is he already had an album out in 2003.
Heard it have you?
Me neither.

PJ Harvey - Is This Desire [1998]

Mmmm ... imagine a night spent in a gothic house in some bleak and remote location, fire burning logs, warm mulled wine and feet encased in mammoth furry socks. Press play and lean back into a battered Chesterfield and succumb to the musical equivalent of Green & Blacks dark chocolate. I use this particular brand as it's reputation is for smooth, sensual perfection and that is just what you get with PJ Harvey. Be warned though, there are times when a random and seemingly innocent piece will have been laced with powdered glass - you get a rasping, shrieking pain when you swallow but then Harvey brings you back from agony and smooths away your pain with generous helpings of beauty, imagination, lyrical poetry and musical artistry.

Needless to say, I quite like PJ Harvey and I hope you do too ...

By the way, this isn't HitMeWithIt; this is She Who Must Not Be Named (or as he says HitMe's woman) making a brief appearance. Hello everyone.

Radiohead - Itch [1994] Japan Import

I've had this album sitting here for a few weeks now and had a listen to it a couple of days ago. Never been a full on fan of Radiohead but I always loved hearing that song 'Fake Plastic Trees' from their album 'The Bends'. It's a great song for sure. The lyrics really cut through you, if you bother to digest them. That album was my introduction to Radiohead way back in 1995 or early '96. I always get a stirring memory when I hear Radiohead and especially that song. Let me tell you why:
I knew a guy called Russell who lived on the Island in Scotland that I had lived on for years..he was locally thought of as a bit weird; scatty; a bit of a druggie. He played guitar and was really quite good too and so, me being a guitarist we ended up knowing each other. Long story short, I discovered exactly why he was so neurotic and supposedly weird, he was dying. He had a terminal condition and was in serious intractable pain 24/7.
Yet he still managed to come round and have a joint and play guitar with us all.
He brings a smile to my face when I think of some of those times we all had. He was a mad fucker but a more genuine guy you couldn't hope to meet.
The Radiohead connection comes in when I went to his house one day and he put 'The Bends' on. I was talking at the time and he just looked over at me and said 'SHUT UP and just LISTEN'. whilst I was in half sentence.
I listened.
To the whole album.

He then went on saying that Radiohead were going to go down in history; a band with a huge & rare talent and, compared to the popuilar bands of the moment which were Oasis, Oasis and er, Oasis(at least where I lived!) he said they blew them out of the water without even trying. Being an Oasis fan -idiot- I would laugh at this but somewhere I knew he was talking sense. I got 'The Bends' and listened to it a lot from then on. We taught each other the tracks off of it and would sing Radiohead when we were drunk enough(!).
I left the Island about a year after that.
I got word Russell died a month or two later.
I bet he would have loved this album.

So how is the music?
In a nutshell this is a collection of EPs that were released onto this album in Japan, just before The Bends was released. Seems it then became quite a golden egg to get a hold of. Not sure if that situation is the same nowadays but either way it's still rated, in my opinion, as one of THE albums to get if you like the band. It sits there alongside 'The Bends' as a work of genius as far as I am concerned. I don't have or listen to much of any other Radiohead music. I don't think any of it compares to this one and The Bends.
If you like 'em, get it!
If you haven't tried 'em - You NEED to get it!

Tracklist
1. Stop Whispering (US Version) (4:13)
2. Thinking About You (2:17)
3. Faithless, The Wonder Boy (4:09)
4. Banana Co. (2:26)
5. Killer Cars (Live) (2:17)
6. Vegetable (Live) (3:12)
7. You (Live) (3:38)
8. Creep (Acoustic) (4:19)

Nice finish with the acoustic rendition of 'Creep'...the song that broke them into 'stardom'.
Not that they'd have given a shit either way.

Introducing... Nitin Sawhney [1999]

After that idea from 'my woman' I decided to post it with an album that is of a completely different genre. Sorry but it is another artist I had never heard of, not once, until this very day. I played the album twice over this afternoon and I can only tell you to download and try it. It's erm, well..beautiful. In parts at least. I sound like a prick saying that but it honestly was a fucking beautiful and pleasant experience damn you!
I firstly decided to grab the album after reading this which states in the very introduction:
'Nitin Sawhney is a London-based composer and DJ of various styles of music, including jazz, drum and bass, hip hop, flamenco and modern orchestral compositions. His major works include Beyond Skin, Prophesy, Human, and Philtre. He is considered one of the pioneers of what is known as the Asian Underground music scene, defining a music genre that mixes south-Asian musical influences with western electronica and breakbeat style'.

Well that sounded bloody interesting to me.
I have to say that I wasn't really disappointed but well...maybe a little on a couple of the tracks: they were so mellow and almost sounded a bit like those new age relaxation albums you can buy in bloody health shops! Don't take that wrongly though, this album is a winner on many levels and I will be keeping it (a lot of albums I download to try out are deleted and never thought of again!) and I fancy listening to it again tomorrow so it's got a hold of me.
I can't add much to the description of the music that Wikipedia gives it. Here is a quick rundown..Ethnic and Asian music layered over the bass and beat of electronica or maybe you might call it some kind of Lo-Fi techno or dance (I don't know that actual fucking terms...seems they are inventing a new term every time someone adds a friggin' cymbal into the drumbeat or speeds up the tempo).
Anyway why not visit his official site?
I clearly know nothing of what I am trying to convey!

The Cramps - Songs The Lord Taught Us [1998]

Hello again.
Not quite as cold today but the snow is still hovering and threatening a return so not out of the woods yet!
I am losing count of the amount of times I've had to write things like 'I don't know anything about this band' or 'this artist seems to have passed me by' or words to that effect. Which would probably make you think 'what exactly does this so-called self-proclaimed musiclover know about music??'
Good question my friend. Good fucking question.
We are all from different backgrounds, cultures and generations. When I was growing up, in the place I lived which is relevant for sure, it was seen as 'cool' to like some things in life and er..'gay' to like other things. If you liked anything that way 'gay' you obviously didn't value your life or your face very much is all I will say.
I think you get the picture.
Onwards to todays music then!

The Cramps.
A band that have no doubt reached all corners of the planet in their long career and yet - I really haven't listened to them at all! (see what I was leading to?).
It was a case of: Those gays in 'The Rocky Horror Show' were just not to be liked. That included the bands and anyone or anything to do with it. There were many many things not to be liked and I learned them as I went along.
To my detriment I now realise, I never seemed to find the time to go and check out 'The Cramps'.
Well today I thought I would request the help of my woman or 'she who must never be named', my future wife. I asked her for some musical suggestions for todays offering, told her I wanted to post something different from my choice and could she offer any ideas.
The Cramps was her first idea and so I got this album and, after listening, decided to go with it.
They really R-O-C-K!
I have to say she had some brilliant ideas for future offerings too -half of whch I already went and downloaded today. Nice to know my woman has a great taste in music. (and men too)
Maybe she should do the blog instead eh?
Don't answer that.

As I said, I know nothing of The Cramps.
I want to let people know, people who might also never have taken the time to listen to them: You must do the right thing and give this great band a chance.
They are really tight as far as musical timing and skill goes, the music carries you upward from the first note. Full of energy and a lot of fun that comes across.
They call this genre 'Psychobilly'. A term I am not familiar with. I would have called it a bit of Rock, Punk and good old rock 'n' roll!
Of course, being the band on The Rocky Horror Show they do have that kind of horror or spooky sound thrown in here and there but I saw it more as a punky but surprisingly catchy album!
They do a version of that old jazz classic 'Fever' which is just brilliant and a MUST-HEAR!
So you must hear it.

Bob Dylan Theme Time Radio Hour Episode 38 'LUCK' [HIGH QUALITY MP3]

Here I sit early in the morning..it's so bloody cold the last couple of days. Snowing I tell you!
That would be great news if I didn't live in the dwelling equivalent of a cardboard box with windows in it. I just can't seem to get warm. Pain woke me. It is happening almost every night now. Never before have I been up so early for so long without it being for work!
Anyway at least my waking in the night enabled me to go check out the latest dylan Radio show and get it up here fast.
The first release to appear is a high quality streaming capture which, incidentally, I posted here last week(!) but, if you prefer the digitally captured version (which I do but a lot don't..) then I am getting that one too and will post it sometime tomorrow.
This weeks theme is 'Luck'. Oh how I wonder whatever happened to that concept..
Hehe.
I'm listening to the sow now so I know as much as you about what it's like this week!
I will hazard a guess and say it's a fine show.
Go to the Dylan Page for todays links.

Mano Solo - Two Albums... Plus a Large index of MP3

Anyone who has been coming here for a while...(or am I the only one left? probably.) might remember how estatic I was when I discovered the French singer songwriter who goes by name of Mano Solo.
No?
Let me remind you...this is a guy who still makes me shudder when I hear his albums. He has that rare talent for singing with unadulterated passion. Music and vocals from the soul (wherever or whatever that may be), the kind of stuff that can have a physical effect on you when you hear it. I'm talking about tingling or the hairs on the back of your neck going up, not the more usual reaction of chart music of recent years, and that is to feel like spewing up.
I posted some of his albums in the past and today I located some more hidden away on the old hard drive.
They are:
'Je sais pas trop' and,
'Les Frères Misère'
Having played them this afternoon I now share them with you. These are slightly different to the Mano Solo I posted all that time ago. These are a lot more up tempo. The album 'Les Frères Misère' is distinctly punky and I have to say I just love it.
Like his other music, I still maintain that the language barrier is not an issue here. The music and the pure passion of the singing comes over to you no matter what language you speak or understand.
That said, a couple of chorus lines I just wish I knew the translations of!!
If anyone reading this is French can you email me so I can send you some lyrics and you might translate them roughly for me?

Oh, just one thing - the copy of 'Les Frères Misère' I have is only in 128k bitrate. Sorry but it's the only copy I can find for now.
The other album is a more healthy 192k.

It's been a while since I went looking for indexes of files, or directories as they are known. Actually, they have the name of 'DEX' by those in the know. For those who are not, here is a quick guide..A DEX is basically a folder on a PC somewhere in the world, with files on it that are accessible by you and me. So we download them. That's it. Now you know what a DEX is!) ...
we have the link, or address to the files and this enables us to download. Usually there are a million DEX's all over the place all the time!! Usually we are only looking for the ones filled with MP3 or other audio files. (but there are other types of files stored on PCs too as you must know!).
How do you find these DEX's? I'll save it for another day...you can always google it and find out!

I had a quick look today and brought back quite a good one for you..
Here's some direct links you might want to try, followed by the link to the main directory where you can go and browse through all of the files, downloading whatever you choose as you go.

There are loads more tracks to download there, the above is just a selected few that I put on an instant playlist for myself and thought you might like to try the same. What a bloody great playlist it is too...hehe.
I know everyone is so internet savvy these days but a lot aren't, that's why I felt the need to half explain what a directory is.
If you click on this link
THIS LINK
You will be in a directory of mp3 files. There are quite a few complete albums in there, lots by The Doors, Bob Marley and a good few French chanson artists, some I never heard of until tonight. And a lot more besides.
Go see for yourself!
Enjoy.

MIKA - Life In Cartoon Motion [2007] [320K/bps MP3]

I can bet a few quid on the fact that I won't be the only blog offering you this album today but that's not important. What is important is that, amazingly to me I was watching some crap TV show the other night and the band that played out at the end, I now know as MIKA, were pretty impressive. This isn't a phrase that comes out of my mouth very often when seeing bands of the past few years! There is no getting away from the drama and theatrics in the music and vocals of the lead singer. There is such a parallel with Queen that if you close your eyes, especially whilst listening to the single 'Grace Kelly' - which is doing amazingly well I read - sometimes you might be forgiven for actually visualising Freddy Mercury there in front of you...
The second track is a little bit of a tempo change and again has that overiding Queen-esque feel to it. Piano, Rock styled guitar and some really nice harmonies. In fact as I listen to it I already feel a liking for this track which wasn't there in the first few bars.
Track three starts off with a sound that reminds me right away of the ever lasting though not ever living Robbie Williams of former 'Take That' fame (and still hanging on even with his excruciating lyric writing skills!).
This song is weak.
Pissy. As a guitarist (and mediocre song writer myself) I can honestly tell you this is one of those that can be made and finished in one sitting.
Three chords and a chorus.
Very good.
Next!
The fourth track has a faster feel to it and hits off with an electro-eighties sound. The vocal comes at you through a distorter a bit like a quitened megaphone or some crap. Then it opens up a bit and we are traversing the world of disco(!) Sorry but I never EVER liked friggin' disco. Now feeling like I am trapped in a scissor sisters album and I have to say it isn't a pleasant thought. The feeling isn't enjoyable either. Not for me this song. Uh-uh. Shit!
...Near the end, the friggin' megaphone style voice comes back in and it's just adding to the cheesiness of the song. Turn it down!
Track five...
Piano, techno beat...reminds me of some early nineties Madonna or even Kylie Minogue. Then the voice breaks and here again is that falsetto Bee Gees-bloody-Scissor Sisters sound again. I don't know about you but I'm not so into that kind of sound. Don't get me wrong, although it took until I was about 30, I learned to appreciate that the Bee Gees really are talented and did some brilliant stuff(! yep! Honestly! Check them out!) but I do sometimes think that people emulating that kind of stuff nowadays..well...I don't know, it doesn't fit well somehow. You probably disagree but you're not writing this so fuck you.
The track carries on in a mind numbingly repetetive way.
Not much happening but I suppose it's an ok driving song..hehe radio music.
Now we have 'Relax, Take it Easy' which starts off with a womans voice, not sure exactly of what she is saying but it is in a heavy Spanish/mexican sounding accent.
Then the music.
Down a few beats for this one...slow and calmer. Not a hint of disco! It gains a few points over the preceding tracks already just for that fact alone!
Hehe. I'm not kidding but this one reminds me of the band Take That(!) or even their cohorts Boyzone.
Now there's a bit more going on in this song than first imagined. There's some orchestra playing, strings. I always love that.
This song is OK.
Not much to be said.
It's mellow and sounds a bit uplifting but again: A three chord trick.
Track seven, 'Billy Brown' has that unmistakable Beatles influenced querky sixties piano at the very beginning. Sounds good. The Kinks and The Beatles are a definite influence here. I'll risk it and say a bit of Bowie too. Not bad.
Track eight..hmm sounds a bit electro eighties again. If you like electronic synth music from the eighties then this is the album for you. If you don't then you still shouldn't write this band off just yet.
I just don't find anything in this track to hang on to. Did I mention the Scissor Sisters already?
I do have to smile at the chorus and title 'Big Girls you are beautiful. Well that depends on how big of course. (And how often they wash) I've got a story or two that I could recount that still makes me feel vomitous(?) just letting the memory creep into my mind. Urgh!
Track Nine...'Stuck In The Middle': Hmm, I'm transported back to the sixties or seventies with this one. A bit of a Leo Sayer track, musically/instrumentally at least. The singing and lyrics maybe not but it has that kind of cheesy and smug beat to it. Some Steely Dan has the same effect and I like some of their stuff (I know, I know..).
Not the worst track on the album.
Track Ten...
'Happy ending' starts off with a three female harmony vocal not unlike the sort of 'All Saints' thing. Then the male lead comes in to a backdrop of orchestral strings and bass. A mid tempo pop sound. What else can I tell you. Middle of the road. Or, pure POP.
When this one ends you get a few moments of silence and then another song so I am assuming it's a bonus or hidden track. Hard to tell exactly when you have MP3s and nothing else! Anyway if it is a hidden track then all I can say is...they should have hidden it better than they did.

Overall I'm a bit stuck on this album. I haven't heard enough of it to actually form an opinion that means anything yet.
There are a lot of simple three chord tricks, fading harmonies and repeated chorus lines and key changes. All the stunts that give you POP or RADIO play. I also read somewhere that Mika, the lead singer and writer, is a classically trained musician. I suppose it shows - the hidden extra track gives it away -but not in a nice way!
Does it mean the music is good?
Well, no but there is something about this band..

Definitely one of those sounds that worms its way into your affections and ear. There is one thing noticable by its absence and that is Solos.
There are no solo musical breaks worth mentioning!
Not one!
Now and then you get the feel of a song and then it breaks to some interesting sounding piano which threatens a great solo and then...vocal is back before you even got your shoes off. Bollocks.
This band is most likely going to be everywhere very soon. They will be big and then they will become irritating; be the music on detergent advertising campaigns; radio station jingles; then I'll apologise for ever liking them and that will be that.
For now though, download it here today.

You shouldn't miss it.

LINKS:
My links were deleted like a hundred other sites' too. I just googled for ages and found a load of dead links to this. The producer is actively killing them and stopping the music being heard!
Well I didn't post these but I did find them so enjoy while it lasts....

Hope you enjoy the tunes today.

EDIT - #Been listening to the album most of the day and, although it isn't brilliant or something I'd rush out and buy (is there any album that'd make me part with cash?) I must say it's great to have some nice uplifting, positive tunes playing.

Ciao.

Bob Dylan Theme Time Radio Hour Episode 37 'Musical Instruments' [Xtra-HIGH QUALITY MP3]

It's that time again folks...wow has a full week gone by already?
Illness has started attacking me like fucking crazy I have to say. My days now consist of me either lying on the sofa or bed, trying to find a way to get comfortable, whilst hoping the day will end soon. The pain is well...lets just say it tests you to the limits sometimes. This isn't another 'woe is me and that's why I haven't updated the site' kind of comment, more of a statement on my life as I don't seem to get the friggin' priveledge of being able to think or concentrate on anything other than this pain right now. If I can't share that with you then what can I share?
I got the Dylan show for the week again. Its a good one too. Nice.
I also have some more albums uploading and I WILL try to get the better of this situation if it is at all possible, by coming here and leaving a rant or a ramble and an album or two or three every damn day ok!
There's so much shit happening in the world and right here in UK just now that I'd love to talk about and see what you think about certain things but I just need to get the files and links sorted then get back to my sofa. Maybe later on I can return and talk some shit eh!

Captain Jack - Music Instructor [2004]

I wanted to bring you something a little different..
Well I think I managed it with this one.
I better tell you I know absolutely nothing about Captain Jack and, surprisingly to probably most who read this, hadn't heard of him until a few days ago.
I seem to have led more of a sheltered life than even I believed!

As I search around I find this guy variously described as
Electropop
Electronica
Eurodance
Eurotrash
Europap
(Ok, I added the last two)

I become less and less an experienced music lover as the days pass because it would seem that this guy is well known but not to me.
Have I missed something big here?
In a word, NO. I think he's shit to be totally honest.
I get bored when I hear music like this. Reminds me of a fucking casio keyboard 'expert'...you know, the guys who can actually play along to the built-in demo tune.
Fuck Captain Jack!
Also I just do not get it..why parade yourself in such an obvious and pointless(or is it?) gimmick as a military uniform? Apparently he always wears it and sings songs of peace and love bla bla.
Amazing.
The complexity.
The profundity.
What shite.
Remember what I always used to say at this point:
DO NOT be persuaded by me, after all I just proved I know nothing about music. I always recommend you download and listen for YOURSELF.
You should never say anything is crap, or good, unless you have experienced it yourself surely.
Okay maybe a couple of life experiences can be left out of that rather flawed statement there. (thoughts of penile related masochism(vaginal if you prefer!) or a bout of malaria spring to mind, I think we can safely assume both are a bit crap).
By the same token we could probably assume that meeting the top politicians from UK and USA would be something you could class as great fun.
Hmm.
Not really.

With me being so ill recentely I haven't been as 'on the ball' as usual regarding all things internet. This caused me to almost -not quite!- miss the fact that some kindly souls managed to get a hold of the preview DVD of the next season of '24', once a favourite show of mine. If any of you are as slow as I have been on this one then be slow no more!
Visit your favourite torrent site and search for it. The episodes are bloody good too. Leaves the story hanging just a tad(!) but definitely still a great program and so well put together I get almost too excited when watching it.
I hope your favourite torrent site isn't one called
isohunt.com
The site is not online. Recently the MPAA started some of their shit with court and all that bollocks and now the hosting company's pulled the plug on the site. They vow to get back online soon but I'm not holding my breath. Too many sites have gone the same way.
What gets me is the fact that no one seems to learn a fucking thing from history!
(Just look at the wars going on right now for confirmation of that)
The war on drugs is a great parrallel to the 'war on piracy'.
These are so-called wars that can never, NEVER be won!
In both wars the prosecutor goes after the middle men for some of the time, the end user for some more of the time and, when they get lucky(or that's what they think) they manage to get the wholesale or mass scale distributor.
What they fail to learn or choose to ignore is that as soon as one goes down, another takes the place. Every time a mafia boss is killed, another rises up.
Every time a drug dealer gets nicked, someone else becomes your dealer. (No, not mine you druggie).
And so we all know...every time a torrent site goes down, another one becomes either more used OR, a new one steps up.
Yet they waste so many millions on these fake wars every year and somehow get the backing of the public?
Not the only fake wars happening I know but these are less controversial to talk about right now, unless you look at the UK show 'Big Brother' which is single handedly creating international racial tension which is all down to some bitchy women who are so fucking uneducated and THICK, they just cannot understsand the concept enough to even realise it.
I haven't much to add to the big brother furore except to say:
That Jade character...she is pretty subhuman right?
The words gargoyle and rancid spring to mind.
Has no one noticed the similarity between her and that crazy frog thing?

It will be funny and the irony too much if Shilpa wins.
She deserves to but I am an 'A-Team kid' so I have to be vying for the FaceMan always!

I better add this edit:
Just checked isohunt.com and there's a new message posted by the authors and it sounds promising!..
'We are moving house. If the tubes run smoothly, we expect to be back in full swing tomorrow.'

Good stuff.

Me First & The Gimme Gimme's Ruin Jonny's Bar Mitzvah

I thought this album deserved a little more than an added mention tacked onto the bottom of yesterdays post.
It's a bit unusual for a couple of reasons.
The first obvious reason is what I already said yesterday...a punk band playing songs like this?
It's just weird.
The second being that this album is one long take from start to finish, seemingly (unless I am mistaken) an unedited recording of a real gig at a bar mitzvah where the band, even during their break, keep the tapes running. This means that on the album there is indeed a spot where there is no sound until they come back and carry on playing!
I don't seem to take too well to their er..'jokes' in between tracks but well..humour is subjective right.
So is music.
Oh fuckit.

TRACKLISTING (copied right from THIS PAGE)
1. "Jonny's Blessing"
2. "Stairway to Heaven" – (Jimmy Page, Robert Plant)
3. "Heart of Glass" – (Debbie Harry, Chris Stein)
4. "Delta Dawn" – (Larry Collins)
5. "Come Sail Away" – (Dennis DeYoung)
6. "O Sole Mio" – (Traditional)
7. "Strawberry Fields Forever" – (Lennon-McCartney)
8. "Auld Lang Syne" – (Traditional)
9. "The Longest Time" – (Billy Joel)
10. "Always on My Mind" – (Johnny Christopher, Mark James, Wayne Carson Thompson)
11. "Take It on the Run" – (Gary Richrath)
12. "Superstar" – (Bonnie Bramlett, Leon Russell)
13. "Hava Nagila" – (Traditional)
14. "Hava Nagila (Christmas Arrangement)" – (Traditional)
15. "Seasons in the Sun" (Jacques Brel, Rod McKuen)
16. "Sloop John B" (Traditional, Brian Wilson)

I have to say I always liked that verging-on-the-wrong-side-of-irritating song Sloop John B by The Beach Boys but this version wakes it up a little and breathes some life into the old tune!
You have to hear it.

I also have to love the auld Lang Syne cover they do. Brilliant stuff.
Found it on Youtube so here is the link if you want to see it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvB3hFKBZRM

I didn't know(until now) the same party was filmed. It really was just your average bar mitzvah.
Well, if you can call it average with this band playing at it.

This is the last of the collection of albums I grabbed by this band. I'll get on to something else now but don't bypass these.
They really are worth hearing!

Good Morning! - Me First & The Gimme Gimme's

Hello my friends..
I feel pretty damn good today and about time to.
Let me say a HUGE thank you to the people who have sent me in a donation to paypal recently.
You know who you are.
I appreciate it so much you know. I may come across as a beggar but I stand by my position of not being able to work and, perhaps, not being intelligent enough to actually create a secure job from my computer knowledge and experience. (I doubt I could do the latter when I am getting so damn ill so frequently). So! I thank you and hope I can really give something back. More than I have been lately for I know this place has been slipping further and further down the drain for a while now.
Let's see what we can do about it before its fucked!

When I said in an earlier post that I have been listening to some different music lately, let me tell you..
A friend sent me a track by a band called 'Me First & the Gimme Gimme's', you may have heard of them. No? Me neither!
the thing is it was a song that took me right back to the early days when I first learned to play guitar and I used to sit with this guy and we'd practice this bloody song all day trying to play it as fast as it sounded. I must confess: It was a Simon & Garfunkel tune!
Me and Julio to be precise!
Let's not get too snooty about it though because I will openly admit it is a fuckin' brilliant song!!
(I picked up the guitar and had a sing of it today and yep, it's still great to play!)
So this Gimme Gimme's band did a version of it. Press the button on the youtube window and hear it.

Like it?
I do. It is from the album below titled 'Have a Ball'.
After the crapiness of Christmas and the doubtfulness of the New Year anticipation Celebrations, I needed something with a bit of kick to it. Some energy to supplant the absolute lack of the stuff that I have myself.
This band does it for me. Ok Ok I have to say that every song on every album is a COVER! They maybe can't write their own stuff? Who knows. The thing I was surprised at and I like about their albums is that, when you put one on, you find you recognise every tune that you hear though not necessarily in the same way you might have in the past. I mean, can you imagine what Barry Manilow's 'Mandy' sounds like when punked-up?
It's actually pretty good. I find myself liking the friggin' song (don't tell anyone will you) so they must be doing something right.
I better warn you...If you're like me you'll play these at a hefty volume, get used to all the songs, sing them out loud...Over and over the albums will play and..and then..?
Well I kind of played them out already!
The fact that they are such well known (and its lots of cases, crappy on their first incarnation) songs means that I now find myself with the feeling of having heard them too much already.
So! Definitely a must hear!
One to listen to; get used to; decide what tracks you like, and then put it on the shelf for later.
You will know when a certain mood takes you and those will be the days when you'll reach for Me First & the Gimme Gimme's.

I hope you enjoy.
Not posted in chronological order but posted in my order of personal preference..I recommend the top one first, if you like, get the rest.
