Freight Trains & Bob Dylan

Back for a moment.
I have been listening to old Bob Dylan and really getting to know it and loving it more all the time. I thought the track Freight Train Blues on his album, Bob Dylan (1962) (PASSWORD FOR THAT FILE:power) was just brilliant and, surprise surprise, it makes you think of freight trains and long journeys...well, me at least. I have spent a few long months travelling like that except for the fact I was in England, Scotland or Wales and never even saw a freight train! Skipped a few public trains though...I don't suppose that counts.
...it seemed like an adventure to me.
My Dad, a bit older than me, a lot more life experienced and, well, obviously of the same stock because he HAS travelled.
More relevant here is the fact that he travelled from the East coast of USA to the West Coast.
On a freight Train.
Yep. I am pretty jealous of that.

He went from California to New York.
I would need to get him talking and ask him how long it took exactly but I doubt he would remember anything 'exactly' about it. I have heard the stories though and it's amazing.
I decided to put together a video to go along with the song Freight Train Blues.
Hope you enjoy it.

It is far from being the only track on that album that conjures up Freight Trains...Dylan was so different then, a lot of the tracks transport you across the states and into some historic moment you might have to go looking up on google...heh...or is that just me?

Jason Mraz - Homemade [2002]

Hello
Yet another of the Jason Mraz titles that seems to have become an elusive catch online!
Well it may not be here long so grab it while you can.
(If you're into that sort of thing, that is).
I loved his stuff right away when I first heard it a while back but then...it didn't have any kind of longevity to it. I was sick of hearing him within a few weeks.
Seriously he is like a Jamie cullum on a guitar...his voice just moans and groans on after a while and grates on my brain. hehe
Like I said though, if you are into this sort of thing then you won't find it effects you in the same way, obviously.
so if you like it, grab now... there will be NO MORE re-uploads.
this is another requested reupload for which I will expect no comments of thanks, like the last one :)
Hehe. I think I won't be losing much sleep over it though.

Jimi Hendrix - 3 nights of Winter DISC 2 (The Winterland shows, Alternate Version) [Bootleg (ATM 012)]

Let me start things off tonight with the next Hendrix ATM disc or two...
These just get better and better if I remember rightly (it's been a while since I listened to them in order like they are being posted but, I am doing it now so it's great. Every time I post one I end up playing it for a while until the next), you do get such variances in quality though and sometimes I hear an audience Taped Recording and, unless you were really obsessive about owning every sound the band ever made within taping distance then there's no point in owning some of them...you can't make out shit.
If I think of any examples I'll post them.
Gladly none of these ATM sets are quite so bad. Which is why I chose these to post...and to get for myself a while back because they are put together for the fact that they are good bootlegs.
(there's still a few out of the 256 (I think) that sound a bit shit!)

The next instalment in the great -

'Hendrix Archived Traders Material blog posting'!

ATM number 012
Please - Read my post for Disc One of this set to understand why I have finally settled with the fact that what I am offering you here is the 3 Nights Of Winter Alternate Version set.
This has great sound quality and some of the great tracks that we all know and love - as all of the Winterland stuff does!
Link to be found here for a bit more info.

So, Here is the second disc of 3 Nights of Winter Alternate Version [Disc Two] which contains:
The Jimi Hendrix Experience playing The Winterland, San Francisco, on 10th October 1968 ..and this was the 2nd show.

Tracklist
The winterland, San Francisco 10th October 1968
Second show.
---------

202 Tax Free
203 Lover Man
204 Sunshine Of Your Love
205 Hear My Train A Comin'

Jimi Hendrix - 3 nights of Winter DISC 1 (The Winterland shows, Alternate Version) [Bootleg (ATM 011)]

The next installment in the great -

'Hendrix Archived Traders Material blog posting'!

ATM number 011
There are many different bootlegged releases of these shows but the two main ones have the titles
3 nights of Winter and 3 nights of Winter Alternate version, plus the more well known online..which is an official release -
The Complete Winterland Reels and loads of other variations, bootlegged and other compilations that were released officially..
Well, after much deliberation, listening and trying to match track titles to info that came with them and the artwork also I have finally settled with the fact that what I am offering you here is the 3 Nights Of Winter Alternate Version set.
This has great sound quality and some of the great tracks that we all know and love - as all of the Winterland stuff does! The difference with the 3 nights of winter one is that, as there is a part of show 2 on the last night (last disc) that was audience recorded instead of soundboard like the rest of the shows (This is on both bootlegs I am talking about here) then the people who created the '3 nights of Winter' put in a different show of nicer quality on the part of the disc where you would expect the 2nd show of night 3. It is a show from the same year and it is a good show too. If they had to make such a choice then I feel they made a good one as we get to hear some really good shit!
Anyway my friends, those of you who gave up on ever getting any more of these from me here..this is for you especially, if you have waited this long, here is the first disc of 3 Nights of Winter Alternate Version [Disc One] which contains:
The Jimi Hendrix Experience at The Winterland, San Francisco, 10th October 1968
1st show.

Covers included are for the wrong version of this show! I am sorry but I was getting confused! Plus I had already worked on the tracks before really trying to identify the exact show version so I made the error with the covers.
The cover that works for all of the discs in the set will be uploaded with Disc two...very very soon. So don't worry.

Tracklist
101 Intro
102 Are You Experienced
103 Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)
104 Red House
105 Foxy Lady
106 Like A Rolling Stone
107 Star Spangled Banner
108 Purple Haze

Plus - these shows are bloody good...I never tire of listening to them.

Info...as far as I can find anyway:

BOB DYLAN - BBC TV Specials Recorded June 1st 1965 "SPEED CORRECTED"

Bob Dylan
BBC Studios
London, England
June 1st 1965

A version of this recording was put out recently taken from a
commercial bootleg (Black Dog) which had been sourced from the original Torrent on
I believe ********. Speed varied from track to track and none were correct although
an attempt had been made by *** who had the original source CDR (see original notes
below)

This torrent is sourced from a CDR recieved from *** before the shows were bootlegged.

The improvements I have made are speed correcting each track individually, as this is
what *** "attempted" with his original copy. I used "At The BEEB", "1965 Revisited" and my
original "Vinyl Bootleg" to compare speeds. Using Soundforge 9 Time Stretch the percentage
variations were from 100.42% to 104.17%. Burnt to disc and played back it sounds good to
me and pretty much as close as it's likely to get. Playback level was increased by 3.73db

There is a speed fluctuation at the beginning of Track 7 which is on the original tape
no attempt was made to correct this

Source: Open Reel Tape at 3.75ips from Rediffusion Box > Minidisc > CDR > EAC > CoolEdit >
CDR > EAC > Soundforge 9 > FLAC Level 8 align on sector boundaries

Artwork Included

First Show:
1 Ballad Of Hollis Brown
2 Mr Tambourine Man
3 Gates Of Eden
4 If You Gotta Go, Go Now
5 Lonesome Death Of Hattie Carroll
6 It Ain't Me Babe

Second Show:
7 Love Minus Zero/No Limit
8 One Too Many Mornings
9 Boots Of Spanish Leather
10 It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)
11 She Belongs To Me
12 It's All Over Now, Baby Blue

Tracks 1-6 First show broadcast June 19, 1965
Tracks 7-12 Second show broadcast June 26, 1965

ORIGINAL NOTES:
Recorded on 19th & 26th June 1965, in Hull, Yorkshire, U.K. using a KB domestic 1/4in
recorder with a BSR tape deck, running at a speed of 3.75ips via a line connection to
Rediffusion wired system junction box
The recording is in Mono
Transferred from original master tape to MiniDisc then to CD-R
This tape, while in great quality, came in the wrong speed and needed some work before
it was listenable. Volume, Speed & pitch corrected in London, U.K. 10th - 12th September
2005 using CoolEdit Pro 2.0. Some additional remastering including fade-in, fade-outs
at start & end of disc were done. Noise or hiss reduction has not been performed, in
order to best preserve the atmosphere and feel of the original tape which this can
sometimes take away

(These are not MY notes, these notes were already included when I got the set elsewhere!)

My Notes:
The flac files were as mentioned, transcoded to high quality MP3 for you!

The Rough Guide to African Rap - Various Artists [2004]

Just one more to go along with the previous post.
Now, if you were adventurous enough to try out Spikiri then don't now be thinking you are some kind of expert on African rap! far from it.
This is probably not the real street sound as we all know, compilation discs like these are never quite as good as the more localised releases. (You know what I mean - the compilation of bob Marley you bought in the petrol garage turned out to be pretty weak compared to your other albums of his you already had at home right?!)
However! I can't deny that this gives us a great open door to the various sounds that constitute African Rap and...I love it!
So give it a go.

Unsure?
fine. Go to this Amazon page and try the samples. at least you get a few seconds of each track to give you a little taster.

For those who are aware of some of the African Rap artists out there, here is a tracklist for you:
01. Right Here in Front of You (Nigeria) - Unsung Heroes & Ty Ft. Breis (4:46)
02. Township Dwella (South Africa) - Prophets of Da City (3:53)
03. Senga Abele (Cameroon) - Manu Dibango Ft. Mc Mell'O' (8:07)
04. Boul Fale Rmx (Senegal) - Positive Black Soul (4:54)
05. Msimu Kwa Msimu (Tanzania) - X Plastaz (4:20)
06. Eye Mo De Anaa (Ghana) - Reggie Rockstone (4:13)
07. Karimbo (Mozambique) - Mabulu (3:07)
08. Ni Wakati (Kenya) - Kalamashaka (4:10)
09. Liberdade (Angola) - Das Primeiro Ft. Dhamn 'a' Rush (3:34)
10. Djalgaty (Senegal) - Pee Froiss (4:34)
11. Madau (South Africa) - Trybe (5:41)
12. Blast Nuff (Tanzania) - Hard Blasters (4:37)

[2002] Spikiri - King Don Father (Reposted)

Hello people.
Again, not much going on here but I have re-uploaded this fine African rap album by Spikiri on the request I found in the chatbox!
Remember to post YOUR requests there too. You might even find them posted here for you!
Forgive my idleness but this is going to be a basic copy and paste job from the original post...apart from having new links of course!
Let me tell you - if you missed this first time around then why don't you have a listen and give this music a chance? It is pretty good and I always love to hear how genres of music sound across different cultures and places around the world.
Broadening your range of musical experience is never a bad thing!
...Now, from the original post:

Kwaito.
Heard of it?
Well I hadn't.
I found this with 'RAP' in the 'genre' section of the MP3 tags.
Oops.
I reckon that was a mistake.
I now know this genre is known as 'Kwaito' and is South African Hip-Hop based music with a difference!

...it is unlike anything you've ever heard before!
Have a read of this article, courtesy of wikipedia.
Also for artist info, read HERE (NY Times, you may have to log in!), HERE, HERE or HERE.
(Not very much on this guy really to be found yet....someone needs to build him a website!)
