Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs - Foggy Mountain Jamboree [1957]
Not too sure how this one is going to be received but I bloody like it so you might as well have a listen! It is what you might call 'real music'. no techno drumbeats, no synth'd sounds, no electric whatevers...music the way I love it most: Acoustic.
These two really know how to have a good ol' knees up. Reminds me of many a night spent in the pub after hours on the Scottish Island I lived on a few years back. those were nights you never forget!
This is the music to a million memories for a million people I have no doubt. To the rest of you, the ones who just cannot relate to it. Hmm. You definitely NEED to listen to it then because this music lifts you up and gets those bones dancin'! Hehe.

I am reading the rest of his story now as I do this...must get this post up though so, go read it yourself and do the guy an honour. He isn't alive now incase you were wondering..

The 'Jimmy brown' song has memories for me...whenever my old man got drunk at christmas (or any other time he felt like it) he would sit me on his knee and sing the song to me! I never expected to hear that one! Cool.

hum, i would not say that this music is a "real" music because it's acoustic or real instruments. Even with a moog it's very difficult to think than the machine plays alone. With this logic the only "natural" or "real" way to make music would be to sing and the only genuine way to listen would be without any devices. But, apart that i love these musicians that you recommended (thanks !) what i found remarkable is that 15 years ago bluegrass and, of course, country, were very unpopular for many people.
So, today we understand that this tradition is important for popular music and we have a lot o pleasure to discover this continent (if we did not know) or to share with other people. So... Thank you, il will enjoy this music an thank to put this in the ligts? Then you are a bit like the music that you offer ; a pionneer.

Re. The 'real music' thing: I suppose I am literally incorrect in calling this 'real' music. You are right: All music is real.
I think the more accurate term for me would have been something to convey the lack of electric or extra power in the instruments they are using.
Which, now that I think about it, would make it simply 'acoustic'.
Hehe!
So let's just all love some acoustic music!
(and reflect on how real it sounds)

This is bloody awesome. I used to cringe at bluegrass(due to Hollywood stereotypes implanted in my head) but i just adore it now....this one you put up is some of the best i've heard. You have such wicked taste in music...all the great rootsy traditions of the world.
