I had the misfortune of buying an IBM Deathstar 60 gig HD ... er ... I mean Deskstar. It died VERY soon after the warranty ran out! That was back when 60 gigs was a lot, and the price was a lot too!

Sigh. My first computer, a 4.7 megahertz "machine" (with a Turbo button) had 512KB of RAM and NO hard drive. I borrowed a five megabyte hard drive from a friend. It weighed nearly five pounds and took up the whole corner of my desk. But I could get online with my 300 baud phone modem! I could download roughly 1 byte per second. The good old days ... :>}

I had 3 western digital wd1200jb drives go bad on me, all within at least a month of each other. the last 2 i got (was running 2 of em) after returns have been running for more than 2 years. same with a maxtor i have in my xbox. I almost think its just luck of the draw. then again i see 500mb hard drives that still work as well as they day they were produced.
