Björk - Volta (2007)

Björk.
She screams, she shouts, she wails like some creature, undead; a banshee of the night, she squaaaks and squeaks and dances around like a demented chicken.
What exactly is it about Björk?
What is it about this tiny little elvin, pixie-ish, teency-weency gnomey yet doll-like figurine sized extra from one of those christmas time disney films??
Beats me.
I do like her new album though.
why?
Not sure mate. Couldn't tell you.
Does ANYBODY really have the ability to put it into words and explain clearly why they listen to Björk?

Maybe, for me it's just cos' I think she's sexy.

I mean.....Just look at her!

She is a Hot Sex Kitten... Aargghh save me from myself!

Have a listen!

[2001] Woody Guthrie - Very Best of Woody Guthrie.

Now that the Bob Dylan Radio Shows have come to the end of the first run, I feel like there will be an empty space here for a while.
To help those Dylan fans to lessen the panic that might set in from withdrawal from Theme Time I have decided to get some good Dylan fan music.
Being a Dylan fan myself I think I know what that comprises of.

Let's start with this particularly good 'Best of.. Woody Guthrie.
A good introduction to Guthrie for those that have never bothered to have a listen to him.
Fill yer' boots.
Sorry but it is low bitrate (128k) but it really does sound good.

[2007] Travis - The Boy with No Name ~Promo~

I used to think Travis were pretty good. I kind of went off them a bit after the last album though. They had that ability to sound as if they were always fucking moaning or complaining like some whinging self pitying twat!
Well this highly anticipated(by me at least) album is no different!
Some good tracks for sure but I couldn't get away from the impression that ALL Travis songs not only sound like a complaint put to music, they also don't ever grab you; no passion.
The only word that sums up all of their songs, very very well I might add is..
Meandering.
They don't flow.
They meander.
Can't stand fucking meanderers!
Don't listen to me though right?

Listen to Travis...

[2007] Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare

Well I thought I would see what the hype machine was droning on about around these parts(No not the fuckin' website...it's just a term, knob-head).
It seems that whatever newspaper I look at or website I read a review on, the band that made sellout history with their first album have gone and (kind of) done it again insofar as they are getting gleaming reviews. Strange thing is that most reviews have a negative slant and then build up or end with comments like 'they really are a class act' or similar shit.
So is the second album as good as the first?
It isn't as much pop. It isn't as much singalong for the same reason. Maybe I am missing something that everyone else is picking up on. Or is it that I am picking up on something that everyone else isn't??
More likely in my opinion.
Whatever the case may...
On the first listen I was left thinking that Arctic Monkeys really have matured, their lyrics still have that resounding and cutting street quality to them...sharp and often witty. The music was definitely more challenging in parts with a lot more 'noise' where there used to be melody.
On the second listen I already knew the tunes of a few of the tracks and was still enjoying it.
The third listen was draining on my brain. My other half actually shouted through and asked if I could turn it down or put it off as it was 'doing her head in' !' I replied by turning it off as I agreed.
I am afraid to say that, as much as the lyrics are brilliance at times, flashes of genius in the basslines or drumming and some cracking riffs...that Alex geezer has got one fucking irritating voice!
There is a lot of noise about this album.
Rightly so.
This album is little more than a lot of noise!
Not one I'll be playing often.

Bob Dylan Theme Time Radio Hour Episode 50 'SPRING CLEANING' [HIGH QUALITY MP3]

Time for some sweet, pleasant photographs...especially after that one I posted last week!

Wow...is that one whole week since last time?
Such a lot can happen in a week.
Obviously the situation in Virginia is horrific and anyone involved has my sympathy. I won't start going on about gun laws and related subjects because I don't want to get started.

The good news though is that this weeks show is a full TWO HOUR DOUBLE EPISODE!!!
So get stuck in to that!
The (possible) bad news is that the rumours are flying...is it or isn't it his last show?
I really don't think it will be.
In fact I hereby declare that I will be proved correct! Theme Time Radio Hour will continue after a break!
Go get this weeks show from the link below....and Enjoy!

Devendra Banhart - Rejoicing In the Hands [2004]

Hello once again.
As you might already know I used to be an avid fan of 'The Office' and then all things ricky Gervais had a hand in. I then decided he was becoming a bit too full of himself (why that should be a crime when you become successful I don't know, but I am from UK and this is how we reward success!) so I got tired of him. Then I watched the re-runs of 'Extras' on BBC lately and I am surprised to say that, this time around I was laughing a lot at them!
The best character by far is played by the brilliant and brilliantly funny, Stephen Merchant.

I always really liked him on those Gervais podcasts and whenever Merchant would go into a story or babble on about whatever, it would be of a higher class of comedy and always sure to be funny too.
Well good news. Admittedly you probably already know this and I could have told you three weeks ago but well..I've been ill right? Time flies when you're err...feeling like death.
Stephen Merchant now has his OWN radio show. And not just some podcast to take the piss out of Karl either. A proper radio show, with music and good banter!
I highly recommend it to all!
So make sure you hear it next time by going to the BBC radio site and getting it streamed on Sundays at 3pm UK time, or UT/GMT if you prefer.
Follow this link to hear the show on Sundays...
Realplayer stream
Windows mediaplayer stream.
Hi quality
Lo quality
Any problems with those links then you can use the web page player Here and choose Realplayer or Winmedia.
Also, the good ol' BBC will allow you to go and listen to the show at any time in case you missed it so get your arse over there right now and listen. It's funny shit and the music is great too.
Latest Show Direct to Realplayer
Latest show played in Web page at BBC Radio 6

I hope you enjoy it as much as I am!

So on to today's music choice.
I heard this artist on the very first Stephen Merchant show so I looked him up and go t the full album...not too bad as it turned out.
Check the Wikipedia entry.
If you can't be arsed to do that then just take it from me...if you want to hear some simple and pretty basic acoustic tunes, not unlike Nick Drake and definitely a hint of early Floyd too...then I suggest giving it a go.
I could say more but I won't.
Something about him reminds me of a young dylan too..
Just try it.

Bob Dylan Theme Time Radio Hour Episode 49 'DEATH & TAXES' [HIGH QUALITY MP3]

I have been struggling yet again as you might have guessed with the no-show around here lately. I wil never miss the Theme Time Show however!
Actually...for the first time ever I forgot what day it was and almost did miss it!!
It's just been a nasty few days and each day is the same as the next after a while.
Somehow I just decided to have a look at the site I get the show from and there it was, posted 8 hours earlier. I am usually there within an hour! Oh well.

This week the theme is 'Death & Taxes'. Not something we like to think of much and yet, those two subjects are probably the most widely thought about the world over! People are obsessed with talking about their taxes and, as religion will show, people are also obsessed with talking of, or thinking of, death.
I try not to think of either.
When you can't work you don't pay tax so I kind of get let off the hook with that one(or so you might think but apparently my benefit is taxed somewhere along the way). As far as thinking of death goes...not a minute goes by where I don't think about or worry about death.
Fear it.
The Wrath of God will get you if you don't my child.
Heh.
So will the Gnomes in the garden.

TRACKLIST!
Money's Getting Cheaper - Jimmy Witherspoon - (1963)

BOB MARLEY LIVE & ACOUSTIC 1976 - The Yvette chrichton Acoustic Tape.

Wow. A lot has happened around these parts over the Easter break.
Easter eh...what a wonderfully sanctimonious festival that is.
What exactly are we celebrating?
The invention of chocolate that can be made into the shape of an egg?
Whatever...it's a load of balls that's for sure.

Today I bring you a favourite Marley bootleg. Sorry to say it is only 128k bitrate but it is not to be sniffed at. Uh-uh. Forget about bitrate and think of the music.

Here is a comment from somewhere around..not my words:
The Yvette Acoustic Tape 1976
Recorded in one of Bob's girlfriend's houses this tape includes many songs that Bob never released and some that would become some of his most famous classics.
The mood is really relaxed and Bob seems to be in a really great mood often laughing out loud at some of the things he is singing.
He then gets a bit more serious with the deeply religious God of All Ages where he is accompanied by the heartbeat rhythm of a bongo drum.
Rumors is also another great highlight featuring some fantastic vocal form.
Bob on this tape also composes some of jammin as well as a very early rendition of Easy Skanking.
He also chats a bit between songs about opening a hospital in Ethiopia.
The tape closes out with Oh What a Day, which is a long very early version of what would become Misty Morning.

And that is enough from me.
Hope you enjoy it.
Is there anyone still coming here? Hehe.

Oh I just have to say...this crap with the British twats being captured and then released bla bla bla...I seriously have doubts about the credibility of the story.
For one thing, have you seen the video footage of the 'hostages' (who the fuck said they were hostages anyway? There were no demands! (usually a requirement to being a hostage), They were prisoners for fucks sake. It just sounds better to say hostages though doesn't it.) Anyway the footage of them that was taken AFTER they had supposedly gone through 'terror and a frightening hell of veritable torture.
What the fuck???
And yet on the video they are seen to be relaxing and laughing and acting as if they don't actually realise they are being filmed!
I am not talking about the film footage of them that was shown around the world all week, I am talking of the latest one released by Iran in response to the stories that are now being told about their terrifying ordeal(!). It basically proves that there could not have been much terrorizing going on at all!
Anyway that woman, I watched her interview and it seems like she tries to exaggerate every point to make it sound worse than it is! Go watch it at youtube....it's there.
All I am pissed off about is that these idiots are milking it for whatever they can....money, sympathy, whatever.
what happened to the real face of the military?
They shouldn't be fucking celebrities!
It's all a bit weird.
What these twats seem to be forgetting is that, whilst they may get sympathy and lessen the apparent blame on themselves for what happened, their 'stories' are just achieving one thing that is important to us all:
They are really winding up the Iranian people.
Is it so fucking impossible for a person from the Great Colonial Empire of Britain to be HUMBLE?
Anyway...I probably just pissed a few of you off but think about it, what is important in this?
The face-saving of a few marines, or the good relations with a country that has, historically, had a bad deal from us. For once they decide to do something almost unbelievable and for good (albeit as a propaganda exercise and a piss take of the British army!) and all we can do is try to retaliate and make things worse.
Fucking idiots.

I know this is irrelevent to your life but I don't care..read on:
I was reading in the paper yesterday about Seahorses. You know, those amazing and beautiful creatures that everyone likes and no one seems to understand? They even stay with the same partner for life (unlike us eh!) and the male carries the babies while they develop, technically being the one to become pregnant instead of the female! Well it just FUCKS ME OFF so much when I read things like this:
Seahorses are also threatened by over-fishing, Dr Koldewey said. They are being targeted for use in traditional Asian medicine, as live pets, and for the souvenir trade.

An estimated 30 million seahorses are traded every year, by between 70 and 80 countries - which makes this the largest wildlife trade issue, in terms of numbers.

What the FUCK is wrong with us.?
This fucking asian medicine shit is out of order. Another pissing waste of money, time and resources...like most fake snake-oil shit.
It is also responsible for the disgusting and unnecessary trade in Bear gall bladders..you might have heard about that..if not go read.
How pathetic are we that we think that by somehow ingesting part of an animal that is in some way rare or special, we will gain some incredible power of health or knowledge?

Are these FUCKS that trade, no sorry, the FUCKS that BUY these things so fucking backward?
I'm not exactly the worlds most ardent animal saviour or even motivated enough to worry much about lots of things that people get hot under the collar about regarding animal cruelty but sometimes a story and a situation makes me so FUCKING MAD.
It would be an incredibly pathetic and sad scene if one day seahorses were no longer around due to the insecurity of these fuckers that buy them as 'medicine' and the bastards that sell them in the trade. Same goes for all other animals that are traded for the same reasons. It is like a religion. Pathetic morons who buy useless and 'magical' medicines that do nothing except kill the animal they are taken from.
Grrrrrr.

Please visit the sites below...it won't harm you.
Bears and facts about everything I mentioned and more.

BOB MARLEY & THE WAILERS LIVE 04-22-78 One Love Peace Concert, National Heroes stadium, Kingston, Jamaica.

Stole this bit of info from my favourite bootleg verification site here..
This was Bob's first show back in Jamaica after the attempt on his life in December 1976. The original Wailers reunited for the show. During the song "Jammin'", Bob called up the Prime Minister, Michael Manley, and the opposition party leader, Edward Seaga, to join hands and show their faith in the peace. After a few moments of waiting, they joined hands with Bob and sang "One Love".

Lineup: Dennis Brown, Ras Michael & the Sons of Negus, Big Youth, Peter Tosh, Leroy Smart and Ron Wood
--------
There is a truly wonderful site here that gives details of the concert and is well worth a read: Click!

Also, don't miss this site which, amongst some factoids, has a few short video clips of the man talking in the way only he could. Go!

SetList.
(I have a copy that contains a text within it stating that the last two tracks are erm...'missing'. I have not been able to find a reliable source for these as yet but I am looking and they will be posted if and when. If you know or have them yourself then share with us here!)
