Richard Dawkins – The Root of All Evil

Its come to my attention that we get the occasional
“Jesus Loves U” people leaving comments etc..

Well, i'd really like it if all you jesus freaks watched
these two documentaries, they're google videos...

Pt.1 : The God Delusion
Pt.2 : The Virus of Faith

Dawkins is an Oxford University fellow
and wrote “The Selfish Gene” and many books on Evolution,
he's very outspoken on the subjects of religion and faith
“the process of non-thinking”
and touches on all these things, and more, in these films...
so, watch, digest, think
and then i wont mind conversing on these subjects...maybe
thats it, schools out...

Hehe I could not agree more with the posting of this stuff mate. Brilliant. In the ytrue spirit of this site too...all about music and nothing to do with religion.
(I am joking)
Maybe I will rip some of those programs similar to these and offer them up too.
How the hell are you anyway stranger..?
did you get a DL of that Sex Pistols album?
Been listening to it a lot and they really were damn good live. I always thought they'd go on stage and arse about but no, Mr Rotten could throw a good tune...kind of. Great.

Dawkins evolutionary hero since the Royal Society Christmas Lectures and the running battle of letters in the newspapers after. You realise that reason can't win arguments with religious people though, they are right and you are wrong. The vids really do show a worrying trend in religious fundamentalism

I'm afraid the above are all rather silly petty comments. Dickie Dawkins is as much a fundamentalist as Uncle Joe Stalin - a man who killed more than Hitler (oh btw.. he also had little time for religion). I'm afraid your hero is leading you all up a cul-de-sac far worse than any spriritual one. A blank void of vacuous materiality and every man for himself.

Good Luck!

Hey Daz Madrigal . Please check your integrity. It's all at sea you moron. How can you assume to be so condescending as to wish people 'luck' in the way you just did?
May I ask...good luck with what?
Are you referring to life?
Is it such a grave situation for us all that we need your blessing of luck?
I think not.
We are all equal in life. We all start out as a snivelling mess and, mostly, leave in the same fashion. What we choose to do in the interim is of course an indivdual choice. What I object to is people like yourself(I am assuming now), who, due to their own fears and insecurites (filled with 'why am I here' and 'what is the meaning of life' etc questions) think that if they cling to some fairy story of unproven, blatantly contradictory (and sorely lacking in wisdom) mumbo jumbo then they can somehow justify the meaninglessness of their own existence.
What you don't understand is this: All people are not as insecure and fragile as you. All people do not feel the need to fill their empty souls(no pun intended) with possible reasons for their own validity. Most people are aware of how life can be perceived as a gift and are happy to accept their positition of apparent 'luck' in being here at all, and so they will do what good they can and be a real, living, breathing, functioning human.
It might thrill you to know that although the religious factions say with glee that evolution is just a theory, it is indeed a theory...like the theory that the sun will rise tomorrow. Those of us with more than a sprinkling of sense and logic know that the sun will indeed rise. Evolution is indeed a fact.
Mr Dawkins has a great sense of perception. No one said he was a hero. Keep the concept of idols and hero worship to yourself please.
You people really make me nauseous. I don't wish you luck at all. I fart in your general direction -'Monty Python'.

didn't watched the films. My God is real, and he doesn't need any more proof than his creation. If you coose to bealive that you are just a coincidence it is ok with me, you can post it wherever you like. But it is kind of sad...
Oh yes, and Jesus does love you :-)

'coose to bealive'? what kind of shit is that to say?
I am so glad it is ok with you. If it weren't ok with you then I would have serious doubts about everything...humanity, earth and existence.
Tell me, tell us all, what is kind of sad?
How can you be in such a high and regal position to assume to tell someone who is, by all accounts perfectly happy(the guy who posted this film for your education), that he or his situation or attitude is 'kind of sad'?
If you think it is sad then it is YOU who is kind of sad you moronic imbecile!
Damn you and your heaven.
If jesus was more than a collection of insecurities invented by the foolosh weak-willed lily livered pussy willows throughout the ages(like yourself I might add), then maybe we would even consider his ability to feel such a human emotion as this so called godly 'love'. Until you can bring forth evidence more powerful than the mere suggestion of a name in a book then we will carry on assuming what we know to be much closer to the truth(based on evidence) and that is, jesus sucks.
[/rant mode]
Aaah. and relax.

SEE there is NO god!!

Its now off Googles video (or the link is satanic)

As Will Burroughs said 'Jesus was a pigfucker' (theres more to that but its called 'editing to get your point across' Something KING James may have done to the bible in order to help prevent tooooo much free thought and stay King, not 'unbiased translator'.. just maybe..

I'm glad Jesus loves me, i don't know how, he's dead. And how did he die for my/our sins"? i, by nature, do not have guilt it is "bibled" into me and we all know he was killed by roman soldiers on the cross (and some catholic business of the Spear of Destiny, i dunno all a bit John Constantinne/Hellblazer.
Oh lets stop the bullshit, bible bashing tennis game ... its boring Live yours, i'll live mine great...

But before i finish :) - the bible (or collection of 'news reports' on people that heard of, never met or slightly knew Jesus was written 2000+ years ago at a time when trying to explain to a mass of different intellects from illeterate near morons to intelligent, although compared to today, quite clever, the overall ideas of what was understood THEN to be how the earth and the pink fluffy things were created, and the stars, moon, sun etc & the spiritual realm (from Acupuncture to Chakras and enlightenment) was that the bible was watered down for all top understand, why was it preached on a sunday? because people wanted to skip to church? no because it was law and hardly anyone could read so it was read to them, we now live in a society that is not based around a village of 200 or more but a global village, to not even question the bible would be the LAST thing jesus would want, though King James might not...

So where ALL religions and beliefs are intertwined and fundamentally VERY similar.
Basically All with 1 goal, trying to help mankind get along eg Buddhism - (quote Dalai Lama) "All of Buddha's teachings can be expressed in two sentences. "You must help others," and "If you can't help, you should not harm others." , the bible explains things that are out dated in respect to our world hence the huge amount of disrespect and disbelief it has been gaining for centuaries and faster daily. (i could go on a LOT more in much further depth pulling facts and quotes all day but i'm bored...)
Instead as i have the quotes now to hand.... :)
As the old Dalai Lama says

"Compassion is not religious business, it is human business, it is not luxury, it is essential for our own peace and mental stability, it is essential for human survival."
or
"For those who may not find happiness to exercise religious faith, it's okay to remain a radical atheist, it's absolutely an individual right, but the important thing is with a compassionate heart -- then no problem." "If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion." "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive."
and to sum it up :-
"All major religious traditions carry basically the same message, that is love, compassion and forgiveness ... the important thing is they should be part of our daily lives. There is no need for temples, no need for complicated philosophies. My brain and my heart are my temples; my philosophy is kindness."

Now why does the bible spend a bajillion words saying the same as above? Not because interwoven between the 'be nice' are a whole plethora of sheep hurding thought control tactics?

I may shred my bible but keep the Koran, Baghadav Gita, Buddhist books, Shamanist knowledge etc as who needs to have the CHOICE OF FREE THOUGHT when others decide to stuff the bible down your throat.... & we all know what happens when somethings stuffed in your throat too much, it makes you sick.

i was going to delete this shite but fuck it, it took me long enough to write (said King James haha)

Belief in God? The idea is absolutely rediculous. It's counter-intellectual. I mean, come on - we used to believe the earth was flat too.

This documentary reflects perfectly my opinions on the issue. In my opinion, wordwide, religion is tantamount to there being a global mental illness.

Grow up and start thinking.

AR.

P.S. It's interesting to note that this has been removed from Google video (though I located it from another source). It's pure speculation but I wonder whether that was due to copyright reasons, or due to pressure from influential religious people.

I will surely watch the videos rightaway, but i must say, that the hostility and hate that was exclusive of the different churches, is quite expressed in the words of you people... cant see much respect to free though in your statements.
It is a profound topic, and it would be impossible to state my point of view without being misunderstood. but... a lot of people who i admire (bob dylan, andrei tarkovsky, william shakespeare, jorge luis borges, victor frankl, etc...) believe, or used to believe in god... maybe these genius are/weren't just morons, and maybe they were all wrong, but just for respect to them, i give the belief of god a try (and surely dont call moron to anywhone who believes in god).

Great quotes over there! got another: "love your brother as you love yourself" (or something like that, im not a native speaker)
ah, if anywhone reaches this book "Tragic Sense of Life by Miguel de Unamuno". it's just that i am reading it these days, and is fucking great, and is about all this stuff.
salutes

I have to reply:
You said ', that the hostility and hate that was exclusive of the different churches, is quite expressed in the words of you people... cant see much respect to free though in your statements.' and I want to clear this up with you..
Imagine you knew of a murderer. He obviopusly(usually) would have a lot of hate inside let us agree on that. Of course, most people would also have a lot of hate for him...yes?
That is my point.
You can NOT compare the hostility and hate we have for religion and what religion stands for and means in the real worl, to the hate and hostility religion has stood for and caused in the world!!!
that is like saying the people who hate the murderers actions are as bad as the murderer himself(I know there are people who do think that way but that is another subject entirely!).
We have this hostility and hate for the very religion that has caused hostility and hatred throughout the ages. It is precisely because of this that we feel more than justified in wanting to see the eradication of such war-causing, hate filled, speratist religion in all its forms.
No one here was actually claiming to have respect for so called 'free thought'.
Everyone is born with a right to think freely are they not?
It is ONLY when they form opinions that then are tunred into actions that then take the form of violence/enforced suffering/dogma and all the variations of guilt ridden torment that religion is well known for, that people like myself then surely have the RIGHT to stand up and say...fuck this. Who cares if others call it religion?
I call it primitive and backward and the cause of so much suffering in the world that it is not going to be solved until the day arrives where religion is totally wiped out of our society!
I only wish that day was foreseeable but alas...for some weird reason religion is afforded a respect by governments and societies, as if it is something that is almsot outside of the normal laws and ways of thiking. If something is done in the name of 'religion' it usually gets a free ride.
I say fuck that.
Religion is usually the cause of suffering and confusion. People have no right o bring children up to be bigots and hate their neighbours whilst believing they 'love their neighbour'!
The cycle continues.
If I had my way parents who do bring kids up with their beliefs would not be fit to be parents!
Anyway...enjoy the movie and make sure to get Richard Dawkins' latest book 'The God Delusion'.

On your other point....well you are merely confused entirely: I never did say that being a believer in a religion makes someone unable to be a philosopher, musician, mathematician, deep thinker, etc etc.
So the people you mention (I respect each of them too!) can still be geniuses!
They can still be morons too.
