Science and Dr Karl

Hello everyone. Yes it is getting a bit tedious but ill health has really got in the way of things around here. Apologies once again.
When I am not listening to music(or furtively uploading/downloading or repairing software/hardware on this machine) I have a few radio shows and podcasts that are pretty interesting so, whilst I upload the next selection for you I thought I might point you in the direction of said shows so that you might enjoy them too. What have you got to lose? Just try them out!
First up is a well known guy called Dr Karl. Google the name and you will find out more than enough about this character! In fact I wouldn't be surprised if he had a wikipedia page! (I just found the answer to that one as you can see).
He is a scientist,(FROM WIKIPEDIA: His academic history includes work in several branches of science. He holds degrees in Mathematics, Biomedical Engineering, and Medicine and Surgery, but has also studied some Astrophysics, Computer Science and Philosophy. In the past he has worked as a physicist, labourer, roadie for bands, car mechanic, filmmaker, hospital scientific officer, biomedical engineer, TV weatherman, taxi driver, and medical doctor..) and, for a while now has done an hour long phone in show on an australian radio station -Triple J. He has a really likeable manner and is a great guy..honest!Get the weekly podcast and you will most definitely learn something, even if it is just why the grass is green and the sky is blue. (a recent question..hmm).

Now, that show sems to be a bit aimed at, well, lets say young people(sounds like an alien species to me..damn!) so I prefer to listen to the lesser known show he does on BBC Radio Five once a week on a show aptly named 'Up All night' which goes out at 2 or 3am until morning every Thursday UK Greenwich meantime.
The good thing about the BBC is that you can call up one of their radio shows at anytime of the week and listen to it at your lesiure. This time you have Dr Karl in a phone in science questions situation again but, for 2 hours and with a more mature(heh!!) audience and class of caller!
Try both of these to get it playing
Option one (right click and 'copy shortcut' to paste it into a player)
Option Two (this downloads the RAM file which then works like the above. try if the above fails)
Put this into realplayer or jetaudio or ANY player that supports the RM or RAM type of files. You can use most players if you install REAL ALTERNATIVE -click for details. Real Alternative comes with a great freeware adware and spyware free player so i recommend it!
When you get it playing, fast forward it by exactly 2 hours. The show starts there.
I love this show and hope you will too!

Dr KArl for president!

More podcasts later...and music.
Ciao.

Dr Karl is fantastic. I used to listen to him every week back in Melbourne, and despite the truckload of qualifications he carries, the bloke seems incredibly personable. I've only heard him to be unsure of an answer a few times, but even then he knows exactly where to look to get the definitive on the subject. I love that he gets people excited in science (not a mean feat) simply through being excited about it himself, a la Steve Irwin I guess... cheers for posting the link
