Still alive :)

Hello folks.
I commend you on still hanging around to have had some notification of this post. Or maybe there really is no one here except me?!!
Would it matter?
Of course it fucking would!
You think I do this for finger exercise?
If no one was going to read or download any music I had thought was worthy of being introduced to, I wouldn't bother with this. I haven't updated for so long for health reasons, you may have guessed that.

It is not only physical ability, when I am so spaced and weak with illness that I cannot think of much more than pain and trying to eat enough calories every day to stop weight loss, then writing on here about music is just too far away from where my mind is. It is a struggle and so you end up with how the posts were becoming for awhile - short, no comment on the music, just an album cover and some links more or less.
There's loads of sites like that so I don't want to do that here. I used to have a laugh and post some rants but when I'm so ill it's hard to come out of the bubble of pain it gets you into.
so now you know then eh. Pain hits you hard and chronic, that is long term constant pain is a real bastardo.

I've been getting into The Stranglers - Rattus_Norvegicus album again lately, they are supreme!
The way the bass guitar sounds is like a tractor...you can almost see the strings on that thing rattling on the guitar so low and growling. Brilliant sound!
I'll post it up here tomorrow.
anyway got to go try sleep now, just thought it was time to post about this shit.
The new drug they put me on - it worked, then it faded, then it worked a little, then it faded, then i got worse, then it worked a little, then it hardly worked at all when i had it, and now?
It seems to have worked this time. I take it every two weeks and every time has given a different result as you can see.
It's overall not fun :/
Tomorrow is another day though :)

Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention - Freak Out! [1966] GUEST BLOGGER TODAY! {{Stoner Collection #02}}

===-Stoner Music Collection Entry Number 002-===

Hello again my friends...
first off I just have to point out that, nope, I hadn't neglected to notice something that is really crap around here (and I don't mean my 'reviews') and that is these extra large sized Capital Letters starting each new post.
It looks crap. It doesn't quite fit into the stream of writing at all and I want to get rid of it but I'm not sure what way to go with it...
anyway, that's all very interesting right?

Ladies and Gentlemen!
Let me introduce, today's exclusive Guest Blogger for the day...

My 9 year old son, James!

I must add that the photograph has been subjected to a few random and funny filters so he doesn't always (or ever!) look like that!

As James is not so well versed in writing on blogs or indeed doing much writing at all if he can help it, I told him to sit down and I put on this album. I gave him some guidelines of what people might want to know about the album and left him to write some stuff.
If we get more than two lines then we are doing good!

Why didn't I do it?
Well a couple of reasons...I always planned to see if James would do this for me as I think it would be interesting so that's the first reason, the second is that I am not and never really have been a Zappa Aficionado.
I don't know why ... I just don't really get his music. I know, you're not supposed to get it right?
Well I don't.
Although I love the album that goes on about religion and has the track 'Heavenly Bank Account' on it. That's because it appeals to my beliefs though and it's hilariously funny!

I now hand you over to today's Guest Blogger...

Hello my name is James and I am nine. My Dad asked me to do a review of this album.
I will just type the stuff I wrote on a piece of paper when I was listening to this album now cos my dad gave me a list of some things I should try to explain when I hear it and what it makes my mind feel like and what I imagine when I close my eyes to it.
I quite like the song: Who Are The Brain Police cos it sounds like Gong and I really like Gong.
The song at track number 4 is like an old fashioned love song and I don't like it.
I don't really like most of the songs but Who Are The Brain Police is my fave song.
My mind says "I hate this album" (and so do my eyes when I close them!)
Don't buy this album it is RUBBISH!
From James.

Iron Butterfly - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida (1965){{Stoner Collection #07}}

===-Stoner Music Collection Entry Number 007-===

Hello hello hello.
It will soon be that pagan celebration time known as 'Christmas'.
Oh fuck.
Don't you just hate it?
I mean REALLY dislike it?
Let me get something clear here: I suppose 'hate' is too strong a term but I really do get irate when the corporate world/capitalist world makes us; the public; society; the suckers that suck up their media, have a so-called 'holiday season' that is nothing more than a huge, all out, no-holds-barred marketing ploy, done with such attention to detail that they leave nothing to chance for those who wish to perhaps NOT makes themselves poor for the sake of buying their kids or their family or friends some 'gifts' that bring them close to bankruptcy or at least a huge overdraft or emptying of the credit card limit, and for what?
Do people really believe in the Xmas spirit?
Please don't get me wrong.
I am all for anything that enables people to get together. People spending time with each other - Families, friends etc. I am all for any situation or event that enables people to feel free of the usual social restraints and stuff and be true and caring towards each other. So they can give each other a gift and maybe even tell them how much they love them.
Letting people know how much you care about them is one of the greatest things you can do as a human being, to another.
The problem is people...no one fucking bothers too much about that part of it!!!
Christmas is all about BUY! BUY! BUY!
I fucking detest it!!
I hate the way my son is supposed to be, like all his friends, desperate to have the latest this or that and, what really pisses me off, he is supposed to feel bad, even ashamed, if he cannot obtain the gift that is the latest fashionable gift to have.
If you told your kids these days 'We don't have enough money so this year we are going to have a nice cosy Christmas at home with a nice meal and spend some great family time together' they would be so disappointed that they might not even bother getting out of bed that day!
I don't expect the kids of today to appreciate a stocking with an apple and an orange in it (like we used to get eh?! he-he!) but I do wish parents - and the fucking media! - would at least still try to instill the sense of value in them, let them know that they should be grateful. Let them understand that things cost money and that you don't always get what you want in life. Let them see that there are kids in the world that don't even have clean water, never mind a friggin' xbox360!
If you did tell them these things they wouldn't care. They'd just think you were being cheap for not getting them an xbox360 and they'd surmise that all the stuff you just told them was all part of your bullshit excuse to justify not buying it for them.
You cannot win.
My main beef with Xmas is that our kids and, to a great extent, many many adults, are being brainwashed by the barrage of marketing by all the forms of media we put upp with today. Christmas follows Halloween. It will soon be Easter and then valentines day. Or is it the other way around?
I don't know.
Or care.
Rant over!

Music?
You are looking for music?
Oh yeah, well you came to the right place then!

I recently joined a music site. I won't tell the name in this climate of UK Government piracy bills and the paranoia surrounding torrent sites and all that crap...but!
I mentioned it for one reason: They have lists of albums and categories for all genres and styles you could ever dream of.
One such list is of 'stoner' music. In case you aren't educated even that much (fuck man you need to get back to school you thick twat!) I will just enlighten you: This is the kind of music a stoner (someone who smokes cannabis, probably a lot of it) would listen to. Usually this means the music is either of the type that takes yopu on a journey of sounds and great expanses that you can hang your stoned head on, whilst the music virtually controls you...or it can be reggae music, music that glorifies cannabis and sings about it, music that is just bloody brilliant (as the stoner generally can appreciate many forms of music probably due to the fact that ingesting cannabis causes you to have an enhanced musical experience in general - try it it's great!).
Well I hope that's a bit clearer.
Clear as mud probably.

So, I decided to go through this very long list and, starting with the band at position 1, I will post every one here, one by one, letting you hear and then hopefully leave your reviews in the comments.
I am not assuming everyone here is a stoner - far from it.
The reason for this list to be the one /I have chosen is simply that it has so many different genres and a lot of great bands and artists in there that I have posted before and of course a lot I haven't.
In fact, forget the stoner part.
Just look upon each posting as an album and give it a try to see what you think!
That's all you have to do OK.
It's not friggin' complicated.
If you need any help though, don't ask me.
Oh yeah, one more thing. these albums are not in order of who is the greatest or anything like that. The list is just in chronological order (the oldest ones are first).

So!!!
First up!!
Iron Butterfly - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida (1965)

Here's a little info on the band, stolen from wikipedia. If you want more click the link.
Iron Butterfly is an American psychedelic rock band, known for music such as 1968 hit "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida". Their heyday was the late 1960s, but the band has been reincarnated with various members. In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida is the 31st best-selling album in the world, selling more than 25 million copies.

First impressions after listening to the album?
Hmm. Hippies.
I used to want to be a bit of a hippie and even lived the lifestyle - to a point. However those times are gone and nowadays I don't grow my hair long and I certainly don't listen to Iron Butterfly.
The thing is I would never have listened to them even back then because they are what I would call 'Formulaic Hippie Shit'.
Now, before anyone gets annoyed and starts telling me how wrong I am and how this band were so influential etc etc. Let me just say I am telling you how I see it.
I may be wrong, of course. I'm not an oracvle of fucking wisdom.
I am just saying, Iron butterfly=hippie shit.
there you have it.
It's the kind of music you would hear on a woodstock type movie or some film from the sixties and there'd be people with flowers in their hair, dancing with their arms steretched out, spinning around in circles, to make the acid feel so much better.
I don't mind these kinds of tunes in that context but, seriously, when I put this album on I thought...oh shit, how long does this go on for?
It seemed to go on forever.
I'm not usually against music from that era but there are certain bands and certain music that does do my head in and Iron Butterfly fit the bill.
Annoying, whining on, hippie shit.
As I always said, don't listen to me: I KNOW NOTHING!
Download it and try for yourself.
I mean, they can't have such a huge following and fans for no reason I suppose.
Some people actually love this music.

You may be one of them.
Have a listen and then please, tell me what exactly it is that makes you like them.
Of if you listen and agree with me, even better! Leave a comment stroking my ego!
See you soon folks.

Jason Mraz - Homemade [2002]

Hello
Yet another of the Jason Mraz titles that seems to have become an elusive catch online!
Well it may not be here long so grab it while you can.
(If you're into that sort of thing, that is).
I loved his stuff right away when I first heard it a while back but then...it didn't have any kind of longevity to it. I was sick of hearing him within a few weeks.
Seriously he is like a Jamie cullum on a guitar...his voice just moans and groans on after a while and grates on my brain. hehe
Like I said though, if you are into this sort of thing then you won't find it effects you in the same way, obviously.
so if you like it, grab now... there will be NO MORE re-uploads.
this is another requested reupload for which I will expect no comments of thanks, like the last one :)
Hehe. I think I won't be losing much sleep over it though.

GUITAR TABS ILLEGAL? SONY and the MPA.

I suppose I should apologise for my absence.
Consider it done. :)
I have a couple of moans in my brain today so here goes....

R.I.P
After looking into the whole problem of guitar TABS and chords and how they are now under threat (and sites that offer them already closed down in many cases), all this apparently due to them being in breach of 'copyright' law. I discovered one point of interest... as usual it is large business interests that lead the attempt to stop fellow musicians from trading their Chord lists and TAB sheets. As someone said in the comments of a previous post here, I have to totally disagree with this, that they are in breach of ANY fucking law when the fact is that most of these transcriptions of songs into a page of chords, etc are created by individuals who play, and transcode, by ear. Often they get it wrong, lots of Tabs are incorrect but still a huge help to musicians. Yet the point that they are in breach of copyright doesn't stand up. they are not copies as such. Especially if they are incorrect representations of a song right?
Is a thought illegal?
How about singing a song to yourself whilst walking down the street...is that illegal?
Is telling someone or showing them a group of chords illegal?
Singing another artists song at home...illegal?
Obviously not right. Yet giving away the SAME INFO to people IS illegal.
Hmmf.
Bollocks I say.
Look at it from another angle:
Helping musicians to learn to play songs, by other artists, can ONLY lead to one thing right. That is, they will then go on to play those songs. That is guaranteed (unless they are so shit they can't learn them of course! -not me!).
So, a musician learns another's song. He/she then goes on to play that song.
This could be that he plays it at home for his family.or he may play it in the street as a busker or, he may be a member of a band and they will play that song as a cover and include it in their repertoire.
I don't know/care if any of the aforementioned are illegal because; Another fact to consider which is an important one here; Anyone hearing a song that they like a lot will, it follows, usually want to hear that song again. If I ever played an obscure Beatles track when I was busking it would most times result in people coming over and asking me about the song. Which always resulted in getting a pen and paper and them going away with the track and album name. I assume they planned on buying it!
How does this chain of events in any way threaten the interests of the music Corp's?
It doesn't.
It fucking HELPS them if anything!
It sends people in their direction. Maybe not the guitarists who trade and share chords and TAB but the end result is ALWAYS going to be the same as outlined above!
Try telling the MPA (Music Publishers Association) that though eh!

Unsurprisingly, one culprit in this witch hunt against TAB/Chord sites is none other than...
SONY.
You know, the rootkit/virus CD company?
More specifically though, is their contention that certain songs by The Beatles are not to be tabbed..
Fuckers.
Don't misunderstand me here. I love The Beatles. John Lennon fascinates me and I sometimes feel emotional when I think of how his life ended as I am sure a lot of people do.
The Beatles Apple Corporation on the other hand are no heroes of mine and shouldn't be yours. SONY are worse. They represent a lot that is so fucking wrong today in this whole messed up media world.
I hate EVERYTHING they do and stand for.
No WAY would John Lennon be this way about his music. Absolutely no way.
Fuck them.
I plan to post just about as much of The Beatles whole back catalogue over the coming weeks/days as I can.
Look at it as some small protest at the horrors of Corporate weight throwing and intimidation where it is unwarranted.
I'm not TOTALLY stupid though so hang on!
I will not upload, rip or copy a single thing by The Beatles. Instead I will, for a little while be posting some 'information links' for you which will be the result of exhaustive searches of already available public information. All I will be doing is listing those 'information links' for you here in one pace so that you might follow them and enjoy what you find.
It is about time they grew up and respected the people in their millions who made it possible to even have something called The Beatles Apple Corp.
They don't give a fuck about the people and I'd hazard a guess they don't give a fuck about the music either. They care about money. Profit.
They strong-arm so many people and intimidate, threaten anyone who attempts to use their music or (gasp!) put it on sites like this one. (OK they might have a point there).
Not this one though, not this time.
Last time I looked, providing information in the form of links is NOT ILLEGAL. If those links are taken from another site or Google and are, as such, freely available and what you could call PUBLIC data already then that is not illegal.
So let me give you a warm welcome to the best Beatles Discography on any site. Information links only you understand right?

Can I just remind you that The Beatles Apple Corporation are still one of the few bands/companies that you cannot get at any legal music site. They refuse to allow the likes of iTunes to even offer their music.
Are they stupid?
They think that this will somehow help any situation of piracy??!
As you and I know it can only add to, or even create a situation of digital music piracy whilst they refuse to get involved with the digital age at the same time as digital music, mp3, iTunes, etc etc becomes the current way of distributing and selling music to the public worldwide! (I have a little experience in these matters so I am aware that there is a problem with piracy).
I sympathise. I really do.
A step into the area of guitarists swapping notes is, for me, a step too far.
Fuck The business interests.
Let's just enjoy playing our friggin' guitars dammit.

I'm sorry ... were you expecting a music link in this post??

OK grab this as it's great:

I found a brilliant site that has a load of arabic artists albums for download the other day. I just picked the first one..well the first attractive woman on an album cover that is, and I have to say I really love the album dammit!!
It is beautiful. A real modern take on what I know to be Arabic music.
It's like they kept the traditional sounds and instruments in there whilst updating the whole thing and, I assume, it is some sort of Arabic Pop music.
It has relaxing bass lines and ambient sounds, mixed with a kind of modern R&B type groove (which I usually shy away from) and then, like I said, that real grit sound of the trad' Arabic atmosphere.
the whole thing is held together very very well by the stunning and beautiful vocals of this gorgeous woman who's album it is!
Don't miss out...try it now!

[2006] Jarvis - Jarvis Cocker

Jarvis Cocker.
He was a big part of the post rave indie britpop whatever you want to call it scene way back when Ecstasy still gave you energy and happy hardcore was still an acceptable form of dance music.
Oh those were the days...weren't they?
I don't remember much to tell the truth. The late nineties.
I do remember listening to Cockers lyrics and singing along with friends who, like me, thought we were all discovering the world for the first time...like explorers in an uncharted country.
Wow.
The latecomers to rave we'd get called.
We missed the real rave scene, apparently. Felt real enough to us in the nineties let me tell you. I have the lost brain cells to prove it. Or I don't, I should say.
The transparency of it all didn't worry us. We just did it for fun and even now, though my health would stop me even considering taking recreational drugs as I just don't have the energy and stamina, I would still tell people that if they didn't experience the effects of MDMA, just one time in their lifetime, they have missed out on something more wonderful than the imagination alone can provide.
I will always stick by that statement because.. well, it's true.
I don't promote or advocate drug use, abuse or business. That is a whole different topic.
What I am talking about here is just the personal experience and it is something to be tried.
Once is all you need.

Anyway enough rambling...what is this, his FIRST SOLO ALBUM actually like?

I think it is horrible!!! Not a word I'd use often when describing music but Jarvis has let me down on this one. I can't friggin' believe it really. He seems to be still writing about similar topics to those in his album that was so good way back then..Different Class. Lyrics of masturbating in flats in dank, cheap, downtrodden places with dirty women and cigarettes etc etc etc. It was novel in the Pulp album, he was seen as a modern day poet who had a knack for a sharp lyric and conveying the reality of the gritty streets and drugs and all that goes on in that circle of life, with brilliant wit.
That was back then.
Arctic Monkeys have become huge based on the same apparent ability. Yet their lyrics are a bit different. Times have changed. Music, and lyrics, have moved on too and yet Jarvis Cocker hasn't?

I don't like this album at all.
In fact I will probably delete it from the Hard Drive soon as I can't latch on to any particular track and say that I like it.
Remember...YOU MIGHT DISAGREE and, judging by some of the reviews it is likely that you will enjoy this album so don't take what I say as meaning anything..just try it for yourself.
Opinions would be interesting so leave a comment, there's a good chap/lass.

Just Jack - Overtones [2007]

OK OK you might not have expected to see this, or maybe you never know what to expect anymore? (I am talking about the album, not the picture).
I was watching online(just for a change you know) and the TV was on in the room at the time when suddenly my ears pricked up to some musician singing - or erm, rapping you might call it -live.
I stopped what I was doing and sat down to fully take it in.
It was the now highly marketed Just Jack. Whatever I am going to say in the latter part of this post let me first say I was mesmerised by his performance. Beat and note-perfect, his lyrical rhyming sounded pretty cool albeit in that dreaded cockney accent of the Londoner that you might have heard on those shitty Londoner hard men films like Lock Stock and two fucking arseholes, etc.
For some strange reason I actually thought this guy was good. So much so that I went online afterwards and tried to track down anything by him. the search was a waste of time.
Last night I saw an ad on TV for his upcoming album, 'Overtones' and with it that already annoying single 'Starz In Their Eyes'. So I did the search again and here is the album just for you.
I better give you my rundown on it.
Absolute crap.
Beyond shambolic.
If this is Englands answer to (American) Rap then all I have got to say is this:
English kids shouldn't rap.
If it isn't Englands answer to rap then what the hell is it exactly?
I think I just thought up a new genre..
Chav-Hop.
The Streets are more appealing.
Honestly.
Oh but don't listen to me right?
What the hell do I know?
Download it and then slag it off for yourself!
This is an up and coming new young raw talent from UK!
Amazing thing is he already had an album out in 2003.
Heard it have you?
Me neither.

Captain Jack - Music Instructor [2004]

I wanted to bring you something a little different..
Well I think I managed it with this one.
I better tell you I know absolutely nothing about Captain Jack and, surprisingly to probably most who read this, hadn't heard of him until a few days ago.
I seem to have led more of a sheltered life than even I believed!

As I search around I find this guy variously described as
Electropop
Electronica
Eurodance
Eurotrash
Europap
(Ok, I added the last two)

I become less and less an experienced music lover as the days pass because it would seem that this guy is well known but not to me.
Have I missed something big here?
In a word, NO. I think he's shit to be totally honest.
I get bored when I hear music like this. Reminds me of a fucking casio keyboard 'expert'...you know, the guys who can actually play along to the built-in demo tune.
Fuck Captain Jack!
Also I just do not get it..why parade yourself in such an obvious and pointless(or is it?) gimmick as a military uniform? Apparently he always wears it and sings songs of peace and love bla bla.
Amazing.
The complexity.
The profundity.
What shite.
Remember what I always used to say at this point:
DO NOT be persuaded by me, after all I just proved I know nothing about music. I always recommend you download and listen for YOURSELF.
You should never say anything is crap, or good, unless you have experienced it yourself surely.
Okay maybe a couple of life experiences can be left out of that rather flawed statement there. (thoughts of penile related masochism(vaginal if you prefer!) or a bout of malaria spring to mind, I think we can safely assume both are a bit crap).
By the same token we could probably assume that meeting the top politicians from UK and USA would be something you could class as great fun.
Hmm.
Not really.

With me being so ill recentely I haven't been as 'on the ball' as usual regarding all things internet. This caused me to almost -not quite!- miss the fact that some kindly souls managed to get a hold of the preview DVD of the next season of '24', once a favourite show of mine. If any of you are as slow as I have been on this one then be slow no more!
Visit your favourite torrent site and search for it. The episodes are bloody good too. Leaves the story hanging just a tad(!) but definitely still a great program and so well put together I get almost too excited when watching it.
I hope your favourite torrent site isn't one called
isohunt.com
The site is not online. Recently the MPAA started some of their shit with court and all that bollocks and now the hosting company's pulled the plug on the site. They vow to get back online soon but I'm not holding my breath. Too many sites have gone the same way.
What gets me is the fact that no one seems to learn a fucking thing from history!
(Just look at the wars going on right now for confirmation of that)
The war on drugs is a great parrallel to the 'war on piracy'.
These are so-called wars that can never, NEVER be won!
In both wars the prosecutor goes after the middle men for some of the time, the end user for some more of the time and, when they get lucky(or that's what they think) they manage to get the wholesale or mass scale distributor.
What they fail to learn or choose to ignore is that as soon as one goes down, another takes the place. Every time a mafia boss is killed, another rises up.
Every time a drug dealer gets nicked, someone else becomes your dealer. (No, not mine you druggie).
And so we all know...every time a torrent site goes down, another one becomes either more used OR, a new one steps up.
Yet they waste so many millions on these fake wars every year and somehow get the backing of the public?
Not the only fake wars happening I know but these are less controversial to talk about right now, unless you look at the UK show 'Big Brother' which is single handedly creating international racial tension which is all down to some bitchy women who are so fucking uneducated and THICK, they just cannot understsand the concept enough to even realise it.
I haven't much to add to the big brother furore except to say:
That Jade character...she is pretty subhuman right?
The words gargoyle and rancid spring to mind.
Has no one noticed the similarity between her and that crazy frog thing?

It will be funny and the irony too much if Shilpa wins.
She deserves to but I am an 'A-Team kid' so I have to be vying for the FaceMan always!
